No reply on the MF site so I'll try here

I bought a pair of tires at a garage sale last month----it just so happens there was a red and silver tractor stuck between them. The paint on the hood is extremely faded and barely shows a 30 and to the best of my judgement it's a MF 230. The ser. no. is 9A336957 which leads me to believe it's a 1980.

I'm looking for a fuel filter (diesel) and the Baldwin book shows BF884 which is completely different than the one that's on it. The one I removed is Wix and the last three digits are 118.

The tractor has been out in the weather for several years and I'm getting fresh fluids in it before attempting to start it. The fuel filter did have some water in it. I did remove the inlet line at the lift pump and didn't get any water from the tank which surprised me.

Should I check the lines to the injector pump for any signs of rust? This diesel stuff is all new to me

Not BF 825, this filter is just a canister w/o thru hole. Was it common to change type of filter on these tractors?

Whatcha talkin about??? Someone down there just posted an answer... OK, it was me.. but, as I re-read it... I think the joke went over our heads.... most guys must think you were looking for a filter on a pair of tires.... so you got ignored...
hey you got to get a manual, and a DVD on diesels too if hey are new to you, they can't be messed with like gassers.
so check out the YT parts store on the upper left. I ordered a dvd a few weeks ago... it showed up 24 hours later. wow.

I already have an I&T shop manual for this series of tractor.

If I were a tractor genius I wouldn't be here asking questions. Just thought somebody out there might have a similar MF which isn't running the standard filter? Was it common to switch filters to get more filter area and less prone to leaking?

I also added a reply on the Massey forum, but as you didn't say where the tractor was built, I could only answer what I know......The British built MF230....I hope it helps you.

(quoted from post at 18:28:33 10/21/12) Look at a Wix 33118 fuel filter.

YES!!!! now that looks like what came off.

Thank you

Why do I have so much trouble posting on the Modern Form version? A lot of the time I type out a reply and hit submit then the post is gone and I'm asked to log in again?
