how much room for tractor when spraying?

I have a Kubota 9540 4wd from outside to outside is 90" and I am wanting to spray 30" rows next year with beyond I can get it down to 81" if I set the wheels in but that will only leave me 4.5 inches of space on each side from center of the rows is this enough? what is the recommend distance from the tractor tire to the row? Is there anything else I can do?

You shouldn't have any problems with 4 inches on each side. We sprayed with 18.4 X34 in 30 inch rows and didn't have a problem. If you did you could make a divider to fit in front of the tire but I doubt that you would.

Ideally you want 60" center to center measurement. But if the tractor fits between the rows with mashing any crop, you will be fine. What is the C/C measurement now?after you move the wheels?

It'll work but you'll be tired at the end of the day cause you'll have to drive perfectly straight. Do you have sidehills? What kind of crop? Soybeans that are bushed don't allow much room.

When I spray with 18.4 radial tires with squished out sidewalls set on 60" centers there's not a whole lot more room than you have. I have to be right on the row all the time to avoid driving on crop and when I'm getting tired toward the end of the day it's kind of tough. Jim

Thanks guys for the advice! I have 18.4's so I knew it would be tuff, but I'm glad to hear that I can at least do it. I am looking at buying another tractor and it has 16.9's on it will there be much of a difference with the 16.9's?

Yes I do have sidehills, and I am going to be spraying sunflowers between the 2nd and 7th leaf stage.

IH 26 Are you using Safer Sunflower and spraying over the top or trying to direct the spray to the ground in between the rows. What is the purpose of the sunflowers, seed harvest or wildlift plots. Gota love the 9540, may be just one of the best KUBOTAS we have had.

Jim, I am growing sunflowers for dove hunting also to combine and sell as bird feed, I do love my 9540 it is a great tractor. I will be using a clearfield sunflower, I will be spraying prowl, spartan, and roundup as soon as I plant the sunflowers on a clean seed bed. Then I want to come back a month later and spray beyond which is a broad leaf, and grass killer that is safe for clear field sunflowers. I want direct the spray in between the rows. I am very picky about weeds and want to do it right I want a weed free sunflower field that I can be proud of. If your going to do it I say do it right.
