Talk about an owey.......

Working in the workshop/furnace room today (much more fun since I found the floor and and been putting up shelves to organize stuff) and lost track of time. Had to slip out and do a couple chores and have dinner. Then the couch took me hostage for an hour or so.... Got a shower and ready for work and figured I'd better make sure I turned off the light and radio in the WS... Was running late, so ran out with just socks and a pair of sandals. Couldn't just turn stuff off and leave cause there was an empty shelf and a couple things that I could put on it. However it got in there, a castiron grate out of the bottom of a stove we had about 7 years ago, slipped out of the bottom of a box and fell edgeways on my foot...
Moved my toes and hated myself for a couple minutes then ran in the house, slipped on my shoes and came to work... Foot's been sore some but started to itch some. After a couple hours, I figured to look and my sock is soaked in blood.... Musta hit just right....Since I saw it, it hurts like hell :roll:
Note to self..... Don't go in the shop wearing sandals..........unless they are steel toed...
 
Rule #1, never wear sandals.

Rule #2, Always wear safety glasses.

Rule #3, Dont forget the first 2 rules.
 

A friend used to own and run an equipment dealership. He came home one evening and told his wife his toes were sore. He took his shoe off and blood poured out, so he finally went to the hospital. He had been shifting some suitcase wights, and dropped one, but he couldn't let anyone at work know how bad it hurt.

Don't you need to worry about what your neighbors think about you running around wearing only socks and sandals? I think I would call the cops myself.

Didn't hit the big toe did it? If so you may have a concussion! Hope it heals up well.

They are used to me by now.......... I had clothes on tho :roll:

In the summertime you will see me sometimes with just a pair of shorts and sandles slung over a shoulder on a string riding a horse bareback and leading a few others to another pasture...... They just shake their heads....
 
The last time I dropped something on my toes, my wife commented that I was slowing down in my old age - that I used to be able to get my feet out of the way!

I told her that wasn"t the problem - I was just a lot braver in my old age and really didn"t have the fear of pain that I used to have. (Since we are G-rated on the forums, I won"t repeat what her reply was to my wisdom.)
 
Night shift is "no news is good news" so if all goes well, I'll have plenty of time to feel sorry for myself.....
 
Sorry to hear of you misfortune! Know a guy that worked at Graingers. He dropped a 90 lb motor from a shelf about nose high on his foot. He lost one toe, Dr said if he had been wearing steel toes he would have lost them all!
 

at least they weren't cold...... I can get pretty cranky with just cold feet, let alone if sumpin drops on them :roll:

Try to keep the damaged foot elevated to reduce swelling until you can get a icepack on it. If someone critcizes you for it show them the foot and ask them what they would do. If you can sleep with it elevated above your heart tonight it should help too. I'm not sure if aspirin, ibuprofin or tylenol would help or hurt.

It may be worth your time to call a medical help line or contact a medical help site to learn what you can do to avoid damaging it any further and also to learn when it's time to see a doctor. I didn't and it extended my recovery time from two weeks out an extra week to three weeks.

Hope you feel better soon and have a speedy recovery.
 
About 8 years ago, husband broke his foot when he got off the forklift at work. Went to see the lovely "company nurse" (rather like the nurse on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest).

She told him it was just fine - sent him back to finish the remaining 9 hours of a 10 hour day.

Next morning... NO CAN STAND ON FOOTIE! Took him to the doc - the outer bone in his foot was broken in FOUR places (clean through - not just hairline fractures).
 
Only socks and sandals? How can go out without your
man purse? Must have been quite a sight, a guy
hopping around like he's got ants in his pants
except he isn't wearing any, only socks and sandals.
 
Not near as bad as it felt..... Got home and washed it to find just a small scratch (??) that must have just caught a little vein and wasn't bleeding anymore.... Went to bed and woke up to just a little discomfort. Maybe something was dislocated a little and I did something in my sleep that put it back.... Not gonna analyze it or look a gift horse in the mouth tho :roll:
