Adopted a three month old girl mutt back on dec. 12th 01 from the pound, cost me ten bucks and they threw in a rabies shot. She's been my whole life since then, rode on the tractors, rode in the truck, helped haul hay, loved to catch mice when I'd haul a load out of the shed in the winter. Slept with me when it thundered, but the cancer was getting worse, and early this morning she told me it was time to go. Spent some quality time togather till 2:pm, then I let the lord have her back, her name was Brandi.

Nobody said it better than Lord Byron, one of England's greatest poets.

A Memorial to Boatswain by Lord Byron

INSCRIPTION ON THE MONUMENT
OF A NEWFOUNDLAND DOG.
A Memorial to Boatswain
by
Lord Byron
Newstead Abbey, November 30, 1808.

Near this spot
Are deposited the Remains of one
Who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
And all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
If inscribed over human ashes,
Is but a just tribute to the Memory of
BOATSWAIN, a DOG
Who was born at Newfoundland, May, 1803,
And died at Newstead, Nov 18th, 1808.

When some proud son of man returns to earth,

Unknown to glory, but upheld by birth,

The sculptor's art exhausts the pomp of woe,

And storied urns record who rest below:

When all is done, upon the tomb is seen,

Not what he was, but what he should have been:

But the poor dog, in life the firmest friend,

The first to welcome, foremost to defend,

Whose honest heart is still his master's own,

Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,

Unhonour'd falls, unnoticed all his worth,

Denied in heaven the soul he held on earth:

While man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,

And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven.

Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,

Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power,

Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,

Degraded mass of animated dust!

Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,

Thy smiles hypocrisy, thy words deceit!

By nature vile, ennobled but by name,

Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.

Ye! who perchance behold this simple urn,

Pass on --- it honours none you wish to mourn:

To mark a friend's remains these stones arise;

I never knew but one, --- and here he lies.

It sure is tough, I had to do the same thing not too long ago. You did the best thing, you took her in when maybe no one else would and gave her a long life. That"s all anyone can ask. I still get up in the morning and think I have to let my old guy outside, 12 yr habits are hard to break.

So sorry for your loss......words cannot describe the pain of loosing a pet, who is really a family member. These posts of people who loose their pets help to remind me to give the attention, love and spend the time with my dog, Lilly. God willing she will be around for a long time, but it is good practice to enjoy the good times while they are here.....

She looks like she was a real beauty, sorry you had to let her go. Imagine how great it would be if $10 bought us that much in the rest of our lives?

I miss everyone we've had, love the ones we got, and look forward to the ones we just haven't gotten to know yet. Can't imagine not coming home to wagging tails and slobbering tongues. I think I've learned more about how to live life from our dogs than I have from people...

There are a lot of miserable dogs out there, bored, lonely, stuck in urban apartments, etc.

Sounds like you provided her with a great life.

So it might be easier to think of it as the end of a very happy story.

I'm sure if we heard her side, that's what it'd be.

Get another pup that's what we did in 2010 when our Chow called Taz was diagnosed with cancer. She lost 50% of her weight and when she started to bleed from her rectum we knew it was time to let her go. We had her cremated. Here's a pic of the pup taken in 2010 & 2012. Hal

They are family, and its never easy. But, they count on us to do the right and humane things that they cannot do themselves, and for us to show them the same love and affection that they always do us.

Its sad, it hurts, but you were there when she needed you, and needed you the most, holding her paw as guidance into the next world. She will be just fine up there running around with Maggie, Bo, Lou, and about a month ago, Macy, each and every last one of them scrappers that someone else didn't want and tossed out to a far better and loving home. It aint never easy, God bless them, I hope they are chasing each other, and Brandi too. Woof, woof!!!

Vey true about a DOG being mans best friend...Spell it backwards...GOD. Need to get another but don't have the time to train one right now. I feel your pain my friend.

OMG, wiping tears from my eyes. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Give it time, another love of your life will come along. I lost my beagle a few years back, said no more dogs. 3 weeks ago I brought home this little female beagle. The pain of my loss is now gone, I have a new love. Other ones name was Sandy, I named this little girl Sadie. I took this picture the day I brought her home, she's growing fast but still thinks I'm the greatest thing on earth. The good Lord meant for us to have animals to love and they to love us. I feel whole again. Your time will come.

She died in her sleep one night found her In her bed the next morning. Its been almost a year and I still have the urge to yell for her when I go out. You can definately get attached to them. Sorry for you loss, I know how you feel, I had to put my 15 year old cat down in march. Adopted her at 6 years old, alot of medical problems and such, but best cat I ever had, just so into what was going on, I'm not gonna explain it all right now, but she was ONE of a kind, I miss her, and still haven't been able to, or feel I want another cat right yet. I feel bad about that, because I know many cats/ dogs are waiting for a home. It's hard to replace something you get so close to.

I try not to look at it as replacing the pet I had, but instead, starting a new life with a new pet. You can never replace the old one, but you can sure have a great time and build a friendship with a new animal.
