Hello I just bought a ford 2000 tractor. But was told by my friend its a fordson dexta. Well we tried to start it this weekend and we did not have a good charged battery so it did not go so well. We pulled it with another tractor and we could not get the wheels to turn but the motor will turn with a good battery. Is that right...I would think the wheels would move when in gear being pulled.I have other questions to if someone will be able to help. Thanks. Ondo

I believe you"ll find it"s a Fordson Super Dexta, sold in the states as a 2000 and in Canada as a Super Dexta. The injection pump is an inline Simms in which the oil should be changed at every engine oil change (100hrs),using the same oil as used in the engine. Acess to change the oil is on top, with a level plug on the side and drain hole on the bottom. Be VERY CAREFUL tightening these plugs as the housing is aluminium!!

There were two different Ford 2000s, a 4 cylinder ('62-65) and a 3 cylinder version (65 - 75).
Knowing which one it is would help. Also whether it is gas or diesel.
You will also find a bunch of knowledgeable guys on the Ford forum
that would be willing to help.

And if it is a Dexta, make sure you fit wingnuts to the gearbox lid as they have a nasty habit of sticking in gear, just like this one did at a show yesterday!. As soon as the poor guy started to loose the bolts on the gearbox lid he was swamped by 'do-gooders' telling him just how to free it off.....a job he had done many times before!!

... and there was the Dexta. IIRC, the Dexta and Major were known as the 2000 and 5000 from 62-64 along with the US tractors carrying the 2000 and 4000 model numbers. Then after the world thousands were released they clung to the Dexta and Major monikers for a couple of years in some markets on the 3000 and 5000 tractors..
It's created a lot of confusion down the road.

Basically... if the hood opens to the right and it's got a 3 cylinder engine... it's a 2000. If it has a left hand side opening hood and what appears to be a Perkins variant engine with Simms pump or a 4 cylinder Standard gas engine... then you have a Dexta.
Dexta's will also have a 6 speed transmission and rear internal hydraulic pump... and require regular removal of the transmission cover when they lock in gear... unless you want to build up the worn parts of the shift levers. Keep in mind that if the wheels won't turn now and you think it IS in high gear... it might be locked in TWO gears. If so, don't force it or you're break something. Get it in neutral first...

In the states I have never seen one listed as a 2000 or a super Dexta, only as a Super Dexta or earlier ons as Dexta but never with any model numbers for them. On the blue-grey Major yes but not on a Dexta.

I bought my Super in Nov.1963, badged as a Super, later had it repainted. After repainting, needed a set of new decals and could only get "2000 Super Dexta" decals from Ford and was told that the Super was sold in the U.S. as such.
