Been Installing two boilers for the last week. Tore out a late 1980's Utica boiler that the segment seals had failed in, loosing water into the fire chamber. UB offered a $300 discount towards a new one, but I have seen way to many of these failures in past years. It cost $500 more, but we put in a new Bulgerus multi fuel boiler, fired with oil at present, but can be easily adapted to gas if oil becomes too expensive compared to gas. If NY adopts gas fracking, we will have an abundance of gas here.
I also removed a Royall combination Coal/Wood boiler, Which I lugged home, and installed this weekend. It was tied to the UB with 1-1/4" black iron pipe. I salvaged all the valves and fittings I could, plus I had a quanity of same sized and bigger pipe that I salvaged from another job. I tied it into my retrofited radient heating system, I used "what I had" to do as much of the plumbing as posible. I installed the Royall in my shop, and linked it to my existing oil fired boiler and distribution system in my celar, plumung it to backfeed the existing system. Last year we heated the total house without using a drop of oil! Put a Harman P61 wood pellet stove in celar and ran a high tech "Fireplace Extrordinair" centered on the main floor of our 2500sq.ft ranch. Since I retired this spring I also want to heat my 24'x48-1152 sq.ft shop, without using any oil. I have an abundance of wood, 12 full cord cut last summer, 2011. I fired the system friday afternoon, and both systems easily went up to 145F within two hrs. with small wood fire. Worked today to run a new 50A 240V subfeed to the shop, plus a generator hookup for my Yanmar Diesel genset. I am thinking that if necessary I can go "off grid" if necessary. As I said I used no oil last year, but had a full 275gal tank. Put a hand pump on it to fuel my Kubota B2150 tractor and KX41 trackhoe. I'm not posting pics of the Royall yet as it is still not a finished product. (leadcords etc. rather than BX cable) This morning I kicked in the "Turbo Boost" (combustion fan) and WoW, temp raised to 180 in about 5Min. Don't need that with radiant heat!, so I guess unless I expirement with coal, I will run it naturally aspirated, on wood.
Will post pics. of the finished product when it is repainted and looks like new, and my shop is a bit neater. LOL
Just an added note; Friday afternoon It turned colder and rain turned to Lake Affects squalls. I got "Grappled on" the new term the weather watchers came up with last spring. The stuff looks like styrofoam nuggets, and temp dipped to 27F overnight. This afternoon the temp peaked at 69F. What the hay

the old pipe vice and threader are great!! i been looking for a replacement for my set, that managed to get borrowed and never returned. cant remember who i loaned em too either. btw, we got the hydraulics loose on that 400 case i asked you about a couple weeks ago. pulled the hydraulic lines off either side , pulled out the spring and little ball, then tapped them back and forth gently. hitch is slow and spongy, seems like it has a little air in the system. neighbor put that 400 on the swing away auger filling bins with soybeans. after sitting in the barn 20 some odd years, ran like a champ. thanks again for your help on it.

Glad you got the old girl up and talking. You might want to check the suction quad ring behind the pump. It may have dried out and sucking a little air, making the system spongy.

Your scaring me, i have a UB! I don't use it much because of the wood boiler. But yes the weather has been crazy to say the least.

Your title reminded me, this old drill's sometimes handy, its "battery" never runs down, it's got 2 gear ratios. Got it cheap at an auction. Just noticed while taking the picture the top's been repaired.

Had a couple of Amish fellows build a storage shed at the church last week. They had a drill just like that.
