Looking at a 8410 JD tractor, what are the strong and weak points with them. Neighbor said they're one of the best tractors JD built. Any body have any experience with them? Harold

They where kind of the last low computer tractor series JD built. They still had a ECM and PCM but where a simple wiring harness. Starting with the 8020 series they went full out computers. I think the newer ones even use CAN-BUS wiring. I can't do much beside change the oil on the real new stuff.

An 8010 series would be the newest JD tractor I would personally own. I have run the newer ones and don't like how they operate. Plus they will not last with all of the electronics on them. The repairs will be so high you can't afford to fix them.

Transmission is rated for about 4000 hours, I understand this not for every machine, but know of a number that made it to mid 3's and then it was a 12,000 bill to fix. Otherwise they are nice nice tractor. I have spent a lot of hours in a 10 series, and enjoyed every minute.

They're not a bad tractor at all. The mechanic can recalibrate the shift points on it for better/smoother shifts. Don't be so scared of the computor stuff, a lot of folks shy away from them but they are like anything else, with time they all need work. They are much improved over the 8400. Those series in the early production years had a lot of trans troubles. The 10 series are a good tractor in my opinion, and they'll pullthe a// out of a cat!!
