Corn's done

Says it all don't it? I finished picking corn this afternoon. I can't honestly tell you that I've ever even been started by this date, much less ever dreamed I'd be done, but seven weeks of hot dry weather after the ears filled left it as dry as it was ever gonna get.
Might just get a color tour vacation down south yet this year.
Gotta wait for the boy to get back from his moose hunt in Sweden though. Heard from him today. Said he'd seen three, but hadn't shot one. Said Togars son got one,and somebody else did too,so they had a couple of them to dress. He'll be there a few more days yet,so he still has a chance.

I'd been grinding it and using it in the creep feeders. I was laeving it right in the grinder mixer for days and it slid right out like it'd been in the crib for a year. Same thing in the creep feeders. No hanging up or bridging at all. Didn't even smell like new corn.

If I can get this new computer to do right will put up the photo... 2 PM this afternoon last round. we usuaslly finish here in the river bottomr right in front of the house. Had well over 2,000 acres and came out ok for such a dry year.. Frost tonight and we will start beans by noon tomorrow. One photo looking from field back to house 800ft up on hill.

I'm getting there.

Got done with beans last week. Did 100 acres of corn before the beans.

About half done with corn now.

Beans yielded Okay, about 80% of normal.

Corn is under 50% of normal so far.

A co-worker that cash crops started corn last week. Said it was averaging around 15 1/2% or so. Driest they've shelled in a long time. Only a $.02/bushel penalty for drying. Did mention that the stalks are very fragile this year, which I noticed too when I was chopping our corn.

Think he said they were getting around 150-155 bu/acre. They got less rain than we did.

I finished shelling corn the 14th of September. Started cutting beans yesterday, they're yielding decent for what they went through.

Finished the corn a few days ago.

Got the beans left, took out a truck & hopper full this afternoon.

The coops have reverted to normal hours, 5:00pm closing, as most are wrapped up around here.

Corn did ok, close to average, maybe down 20 bu but for no rain, that's pretty darn good. Beans look pretty good for me, can't grow good beans here, these look good.

Sounds like rain on Friday nite, and Saturday, haven't had any since I can remember....
