Is there a way to test the coil of a 1947 B John Deere?

Lack of info give us no way to help you help your self. Is it a mag or a battery ignition. What type of problem do you have. Did you know that 95% of spark problems mag or distributor systems are bad corroded points and to fix that is a simple cleaning or replacing of the points. I have a 1935 JD-B that sit a lot and when I do want to start it if I find I have no spark I file the points and it fires up

A 1947 could have either one. Many tractors after say 1939-40 could have either one depending on what a person wanted on them.

It orignally would have been a mag, but a lot if not most were converted to battery ignition.
