I had a lot of neck pumpkins, they look like an over grown butternut squash. I passed some out to my neighbors here in nj,most of them have young children, one has 4 children. I pass out the squash, explain it makes very good pumpkin pie,or you can eat it as you would butternut squash,or it makes a good fall decoration, All the neighbors chose the decoration idea, nobody made pie or cooked them... Where we are working the homeowner is a nice older person well in his eightys, probably a multi multi millionaire, I had one of those neck pumkins in the back of my truck,so I gave it to him, Didnt go through my usual spiel of how to cook them ,figured he could care less, just like my young neighbors with the large familys,. Well , this morning he walked through the mud to come tell me that he cooked the squash. and thanked me., and told me how good it was. When I told him I have acorn squash his eyes lit up and said his mom used to cook them,he would love some. Then he proceeded to tell me how lucky I was to be able to grow my own vegetables. He made me feel rich!

Despite what we hear about the evil 1% from some sources, my experience is that successful people are usually very intelligent and likable. Maybe not all, but usually.

That's great Larry, I work for a few millionares most are great. Ironically one, Robert Nardellie, head of GE Schenectady at the time, was an ok guy, but just real stupid about things. I could never figure how he got to be a CEO, but as I learned,he was somewhat good at doing what he did, but not so good at doing anything else. No wonder Jack Welsh pick immelt, lol

Ya now days the young people do not have a clue what it is like to eat real not out of the can or out of the fast food places. I think if I could not do a garden and the canning I do I might as well give up and die

I like to run them through my band saw lengthwise. Then lay em flat and run them through againn lengthwise for some neat long squash. Look terrific coming out of the oven. Then hack the necks off to get them on a plate.

Ya just think if it does hit the fan like some people believe it is going to happen what will happen to people that live like that?? I was taught to survive and if need be I could probably get by a long time off the land even if I would not really want to

I have a retired neighbor up the road thats more than pretty well off real nice fellow he comes every year and gets Turnips from me that I plant to feed to the hogs says they're the best he's ever been able to get ahold of and he's about the last person you'd ever think would be eating turnips.I love those Butternut squash BTW with butter and brown sugar, they also make great pies just make them like a Sweet Potato pie.
