Reloading; base of the case swells to if moister get in the empty. Paper Casings can plug the re-loader's (sizing die) if it walls starting to fall apart. The rest have been talked about. Federal was still making them a few years ago, I got a pile of them around in boxes or bags.

You needed to carry 2 guns on a rainy day. As soon as they got damp, never mind wet, you needed a 10 gauge to shoot 12 gauge shells. Hand loaders could get more milage out of plastic too.

Plastic has fewer issues. I have a lot of old paper shells. I love the smell and d feel and the look. But, they need to be kept very dry, out of the sun, stored well, etc. Mice will eat them. Plastic is just easier to deal with. That being said, I never personally had issues with them.

It took too many trees to make the paper shells and the beavers were starving to death. It was the greenies that complained first, as usual.....

You must not remember shells getting wet and not chambering because they swelled. Paper shells were one of the reasons we all shot doubles.

Paper shells have a wax coating that prevent chamber rust.Steel head shells stick in chambers of guns with extractors.Paper shells reload easier.Ill use paper over plastic.

I get more loads out of plastic hulls than paper and plastic crimps just look better. Wax coating was as good as any at that time, but moisture still seemed to get inside. The roll crimped were the worst but the 6 or 8 point crimp also let in moisture.
