I bought a 4wd toro with mitsu diesel and a nearly new 60 inch mulching deck. While I worked on it severl people commented I couldn't use the mulching deck in my dense bahia. Can I simply cut an opening in the side of the deck to throw the grass out? any other/better way to do it without changine decks?

I wouldn't do anything until I saw how it would perform on the grass you have. On rare occasions those who give such advice have been wrong. Now I will admit that I am not familiar with said grass, but I would find out what the mower would do first. I guess you could cut the deck to discharge the clippings, You would want to look closely at a deck that was made with a discharge chute, and you would need to add a deflector. Also a possibility that you could buy the bare housing and switch your mandrels and blades, etc. to it and possibly come out with a little less expenditure.

Expect stress cracks to quickly develope rendering the deck unuseable within a short time if you cut it.

You could post an ad on CraigsList etc and see if someone wants to trade a
discharge deck for your mulcher. Granted, you'd still have to change it.

There may be baffles between the blades that won't let the cut grass transition from left to right along the front of the deck to get out the right side.

Can you find one without the mulching to look at. I have two smaller craftman's and the only difference between the mulching and not is a cover for the outlet and the blades.

I'd also sure try it first. Not familar with grass as my lawn is mostly weeds ? and whatnot.
I do know that multching mowers you have to mow really often and only take off a small amount compared to discharge mowers. This may be why they say to convert it.
