I have a JD 4 row flex planter with depth bands and gauge wheels. I want to plant a 1 1/2 deep. The depth bands are the correct size to plant a 1 1/2 deep but the manual say I should set my gauge wheels so the bottom of the tool bar is 18" above the seed planting depth. So I am thinking that if the planter goes a 1 1/2 deep I would subtract 1 1/2 from 18 so my gauge wheels would keep the tool bar 16 1/2" off the ground is this correct? |

| Set your gauge wheels so that the 'parallel linkage' arms are parallel with each other and with the ground. You will have equal flex up and down to follow the contour of the ground. The depth bands will hold it to 1 1/2".Steve |

| that should be to level the attaching arms on the units so they have equal travel up and down when the frame is lowered to plant |

| Thanks guys for the advice that does make since I will adjust them the way you are talking. Wonder why the manual is talking about 18" above the seed depth though? |
