OT: Amoment of silence if you please

I would apreciate it if I could get a moment of silence to honor the passing of my Rand McNally. She's been a faithful and loyal servant for nearly 2 years and well over 200,000 miles. She has served me both in my job as a truck driver and in my personal life for things such as my recent trip to Ia. to buy a 220 case baler and my recent trip to Ny. to see my new friends Loren the Aderondack Case Guy and John Saele. But as you can see she is suffering greatly from lost and damaged pages and outdated information. So I think that, even tho it pains me greatly to put her down for the last time, it's what's best for both of us.

And many heads were bowed in a moment of solemn silence to mark the passing.....

I still feel a slight pang of regret when I use the GPS in stead of the Road Atlas.
But times they are a changing...

I know what you giys are saying. I have a compass in my truck, my 12 year old grandson asked what it was. Told him "It's the original GPS!" I still don't think he got it.

what's all those squiggly lines on your paper? i thought all maps came on one of those black box thingys or in my phone?

I am a map nut. Yesterday I replaced 1998 Rand McNally ($9.50) for a 2013 ($13.95). Full set of Topographic maps for the state of Colo. Set of National Geographic maps for the central part of Colo. 1"= 0.6 miles. Just got back from 125 miles of jeeping.

I know it's tough, but It's suffering. Put it down and think of all the good roads you have traveled together.I feel your pain.
Ron

Sorry- anything so easily replaced with updated info. is not going to get my silence.
If you got to Loren's you went by here.(Straight south of the Weedsport NYS Thruway(I90) exchange)
But it looks like you were looking for Case. Not much of that right here.

I have a MapArt Ontario back road map book that goes with me anytime I travel. It finds roads that the GPS couldn't dream of finding. GPS is used in city, and is wrong more often than not. I'm young compared to most on this forum go and I still don't like GPS.

I like using a gps, It makes it easy finding tractor shows, but I keep a few maps in the glove box in case the gps dies.

mine is an '01 model. Still going strong. I suppose there could be some outdated information, but then again my new Tom Tom maps are missing eight month old roads in my area.

I have worked with GPS's from the start, and yes they will mess up a road, and address. I always ask the person for a lat/long, and I always give them my address along with the lat/long. Been thinking of putting it on our Business card. Most GPS's have my address wrong.

Dad used to call it the Rand O'Malley...
Ditched mine years ago for a GPS. She talks with the female British accent... sultry as heck and I call her "Lady Pamela"
Unlike my wife, Lady Pamela never argues back.

That's the exit I stayed at that weekend, there is a TA and a Flying J there right? If you like next time I'm near we can have coffee or something.

A lot of folks on here don't like GPS, but if you're a North Dakota farm boy like me, and your job requires you to navigate around Queens, NY, or Detroit, or San Jose, you really don't want to be reading a map while you're trying to figure out where the windshield wiper switch is on your rental car in the dark, when you come across a traffic jam or miss your exit. Made me really appreciate the technology in the GPS.

Hang on to it Dec 21 is coming...If the computers crash, and satellites go down ..At least you will have a good idea how to go...

I Have kept every Rand M Atlas I ever bought. Bought the 2013 in June for trip to PA. 1st one I bought was 1988 year. Dont buy one every year; but about every 3 years. GPS... In an airplane only for me.

Don't know. Isn't that terrible? As usual, if I drive right by it, but don't use it, I don't know. I think the exit number there is 40. The NYS Thruway website would tell. That's where they brag about being the longest toll road blah blah blah- typical NY! Not something I would brag about.
Be glad to meet up. As long as it's a slow time, and I have some warning, I could get there.

i like my AAA triptiks. read 4 or 5 pages in the morning and i am good for all day. but i have a sense of direction, even can remember which way to turn.but i also keep a road atlas.
