Well the oldest dog we had died today, untimely because a friend hit him by accident with his truck while driving out of my place. Broke the dogs leg and pelvis and some other major damage. The dog was 15 years old and more of less a big part of the family. He sure as heck will me missed and a hard one to take

Old,
We're so sorry for your loss. BTDT too many times and will again. We hope the following will help.

This is something I post whenever someone loses their best friend.

Sometimes you just need to cry.

Chuck and Bonnie

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry for you loss. Our pets are indeed like family. They love you unconditionally and are faithful to the end. Like the the other posts sais,..sometimes a good cry helps and one day you will cross that rainbow bridge with your best buddy and be together again !

Man I fell for 'ya. I have lost a couple of them in the last few years and it seems it never gets any easier. A few months ago I got another inside dog, little male that's a Chihuahua mix. Little and fiesty and we love him. Got him fixed the first week, turned out to be a wonderful indoor companion.
Lost my beagle last year, said I don't need another. Today that changed, brought home this little 7 week old female Beagle. Yep, I've already fallen in love.

In, his classic poem, "IF" Rudyard Kipling illustrated some of the requisites of manhood. Here's a similar take on the same theme:

IF

If you can start the day without caffeine;
If you can get going without pep pills;
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains;
If you can conquer tension without medical help;
If you can relax without liquor;
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs;
If you can resist complaining and boring others with your troubles;
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it;
If you can be understanding and forgiving when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time;
If you can overlook it when those you love take it out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong;
If you can criticism and blame without resentment;
If you can let bygones be bygones and never harbor a grudge;
If you can ignore a friend’s limited education and never correct him/her;
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend;
If you can face the world without lies or deceit;
If you can say that you never feel jealousy, envy, conceit or pride;
If you can honestly say that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed, color, religion or politics----
Then, my friend, you are ALMOST as good as your dog.

My vet sent me that same thing on a card this spring when I had to have my cat put down, this side of heaven lies the rainbow bridge! It ment alot to me.

You have my sympathy, my friend. We have had a rough week also. Our dog tore a tendon his hind leg and they had to operate on it Wednesday. He had to spend the night at the vets and he was very traumatized when we picked him up Thursday. He is getting back to his old self now. Problem is going to be keeping him from being too active for eight weeks while it heals.

Lost Wizard last February a year ago, 16 year old border. I feel with you- I still miss that old dog.

Our black Chow was diagnosed with stomach cancer 2010 so we bought another Chow pup once we knew she wouldn't survive. Here are some pics of that pup. Hal

Rich,
Sorry to hear that. We lost two of our favorite fury family members last year. Buried each of them at the end of a raised bed box in the garden. Every time we work at those boxs we can renjoy their time with us.

I feel your pain and am very sorry to hear of your loss, time will eventually lighten that heavy feeling in your heart. I still miss my little buddy named "Tater", a diamondback rattler popped him 3 years ago, he was a dachshund. Greived over his loss for quite a while, guess I went crazy since then and have 3 more weenie dogs following me around now in the fields and woods, all named for characters of my favorite tv show, I named one Otis, Goober, and Barney, I'm sure you know the show I'm so fond of.
