Rudolph Diesel

Read a book on him in high school was a good read. He even had engines that would run on the tar sand oil in the middleast during this time frame.

Interesting. He is responsible for a lot of stuff I have. Gassers are to much trouble to keep up with if don't use them every day.

I'm sure that Herr Diesel is spinning in his grave witnessing what the federales have done to his innovation, e.g., Tier II, Tier IV, EGR, particulate filters, DEF, the nonsense is endless....

Yet another example of a technically brilliant person dying either alone, penniless or via tragedy . Nicolas Telso was another.
Yet somebody with nothing to offer like Kim Kardshian make huge bucks and are recognized for their "valuable" contributions.

Actually no. Apparently Kim Kardashian was hoping to get a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame but was shut down when they told her it wasn't for reality TV wanna be's.

I heard he saw some south sea natives start fire with a fire piston & that gave him the idea for the engine. Google fire piston for more info.

A definitive book on Diesel is "Diesel's Engine" by Lyle Cummins. He also wrote a book about his father, Clessie Cummins and the development of the Cummins Diesel and associated company. Very interesting reading for me, as I grew up around Cummins truck engines in the 1960's and 70's.

I knew that he was despondent and had drowned- I didn't know that it might have been accidental, nor the story about those who found his (?) body. Bugs me how people can't say his name without putting a 'z' in it! vas is lohs (sp?) wit dat? Bought that fuel since '73 and never paid for any deezel.
