Been reading the old magazines I got here lately and thought I'd post an old ad out of Farm and Ranch from August of 1956. Just for informational putposes there was another on the back cover for the new IH pickups, and inside the front cover for the new 1956 Chevrolets. Love those old ads. Hope this pic posts OK. Wayne

I love those old ads too. My father in law gave me 2 country gentleman magazines, June and October 1941. They sold for 5 cents then. Pretty neat the way things used to be back then!

We used one just like that from 1957-67. Dad bought a ford 6000 to power it. I think it had about 60 hp at the PTO and the SOS tranny would go slow enough to handle the tall corn. That was a lot back then.

Yes it was slow, however so was the gismo that blew the silage up a tube to fill the silo. Had to plan ahead and start filling the silos before the corn turned brown.

So much for the "GOOD OLD DAYS".

George

Remember in 52 dad bought a new Gehl one row cutter (had augers up the front to pick up corn) with a Contiental Red Seal engine on it. Pulled it with a WD Allis and sometimes with a F-20. The cutter had a 4 clyinder flat head and when it was running with the WD pulling it and a B JD pulling the wagon. We was honkin. Seemed like we filled for every neighbor for miles around. Fun, Fun, Fun.

I have always wondered how long it would take to get over five hundred acres, doing it one row at a time.

Retired Farmer , I have your answer on the question of how long it would take to do 500 acres with a one row harvester. 25 years of corn crops @2o acres per year. About the amount fellas where growing at the time that harvester was new! Bruce
