JD 6430 - How much drill can it pull

Recently purchased a JD 6430 Premium and was curious how much drill I could put behind it. I'd prefer a 3pt somewhere in the range of 10' - 15' but I see a lot of 20' drills like a CIH 5400 that are more abundant than the 15'.

I'm not opposed to a pull type either.

Will a JD 6430 (115hp) handle a 20' CIH 5400 drill?

The boys have a 15 foot Deere no till and they pulled it for years with a 4430 no problem, in fact there are a few guys around here that pull a 15 foot no till with a 4020 or 4030 tractor. It is very flat here, no hills to climb.

We have a 6400 deere. Just got done planting 40 acres of rye with a 5100 CIH drill, conventional. Pulled it no problem. I believe that tractor could pull a 15' not till, although it would probobly know it was there.

I'm in sandy soil here in Colorado with some very mild slopes/hills. Do you think that 6430 MFWD would handle a 20' drill or would it be too much for it?

Pulled a John Deere 750 no-till 15' with a IH 966 (100-105hp) no problem. Didn't know it was back there. Heck, I pull a IH 5100 18 hole (around 10-11') conventional drill with a 40 hp tractor.

I have a 2 wheel drive Oliver 1855 and have pulled a 15 foot no-till. 1855 is about a 100 hp tractor. Works OK with the seed box half full. 4 wheel would do much better.
20 foot is too much.

Around my area I'd say a 15' would be all a 6430 wants in the clay and heave soils we have. In sandy soils it may take a 20 on mostly flat ground.

Going to be used as a no-till? I believe you can do both with the 5400. They've got lift assist on them so you could probably pick the 20 fter up. I'd guess the 15 fter is close to the max that you could notill with. Maybe able to pull the 20 ft in conventional with the boxes only part full?

If you can add enough front weight or the drill has lift assist, it shouldn't be a problem. I have removed the JD 520 20 ft drill from the notill caddy and used on an MM 1050. That is quite a "long tractor" but with a full set of front weights the front end still gets pretty light when the drill is full. The IH 5400 might be slightly heavier. Might prove best to never fill beyond 50%. With the front end so heavy I found it necessary to use track erasers to remove the front tire marks. Fortunately drill mounted track erasers came along with other spare parts. Don't need them when using a coulter cart and going notill.

Up here in N. Dakota I pull a set of 6200 press drills (24ft x 6in spacing) with 24 ft cultivator in between with a 4430 dualed up. I run out of traction before power, light loam soil. I need a MFWD tractor or a cheap 4wd.

if no-till i would think a 6430 hp is a little light for a 20' drill
(tractor data lists the drawbar hp at 88 hp)

the GreatPlains website for their drills hp requirements are as follows:

10' end wheel 70 HP
10' three point 100 HP
12' end wheel 75 HP
24' 2 section drill 165 HP
