deer camera?

Been thinking of buying a deer camera. Have a place where deer get a drink, so would like some pics. Don't have a theif, butttt you never know when they will show up. So what camera would be best to catch a theif too? If the camera has a flash at night, wouldn't that alert a theif that's he's on Candid-Camera?

What features should I look for that will give me the best pics? How many mega-pic? Which will the batteries last the longest? Rechargable batteries?
Thanks,

George

Whatever you buy complete your waranty requirements, like everything made in china, they fail very frequently! We have an expensive Bushnell and the first one failed at 1 1/2 of a 2 year warantee, but they sent us a new one. I am planning on buying another, ( a cheap $80 one) from walmart soon, if it doesn't work to out satisfaction we will take it right back! We can't get pictures of them drinking, (they must not like our well water) but they sure love our mineral blocks!

George,

Take a look at the web gameprocam dot com. I rreally like my Moutrie M11 and the blackout model. Easy, durable (out in the weather year round) pictures on the SD card easy to transport and view. Batteries last very well.

I think you're better off using the Lithium throw away batteries. I got 10 months on my camera and decided to change the batteries before it got cold out. They were still working and good enough for my remotes in the house but figured with winter on the way they'd be done. Takes 8 AA batteries.

I have a Bushnel Bone Collecter 8 mega pixel and it takes great color pictures in the daylight... and so-so black and white pictures in the dark.

Was thinking that I might get better shots if I put the camera up higher pointing down? Just figured deer aren't very tall so I shot for eye level.

In these pictures the doe was about 50 feet away from the camera. Turkey would've been about 15 feet and my dog running down the hill at about 20 foot away. Could be that if I had the camera up higher pointing down maybe I'd get better infrared flash reach?

Russ,
Was the pic of the deer done with a flash? Sure looks like deer in the headlights!

You want a camera that 1) has infrared 2) has a quick trigger speed. If it doesn't have a quick trigger speed, you will only see landscape. Typically the more expensive ones do a better job at this. The Moultrie cameras are slow and very often don't even trigger when an animal crosses its path (I have one and have watched it).

The cuddyback cameras are the best ones I have used, but it has been 3-4 years since I looked at them. The technology may have gotten better on all them.

I am partial to Wildgame. Decent camera for the price. Only real issue I have had is white out at transion from day to night mode. But then again I was not looking for high quality photo's just one good enough to see what was coming through. These two shots came from a X6CG. (link ia a video)

I have two Moultrie,(had three, one got stolen) and bought a Bushnell to replace one. They all have their personalities like people. Go to sleep, hard to wake up, when they do wake up, take a picture every minute for a couple of hours, then work fine for a day. Two of them pointing in same place and some times get good pic on one, not the other and then vise-versa. I enjoy them but batteries can be a real problem. Recharables don't work well in some , ok in others. Mostly used for security purposes but lets me know when the skunks and racoons are coming around again also.
