Hello, I was looking for information on Case IH 244. This is my neighbors tractor, beautiful shape, stored inside its whole life 1800 hrs. I believe it is a model year "85, and has IH 5ft front mount snowblower with full winter cab/sheilds, and a 5 ft finish mower. Tractor is 4wd, not sure about power steering, I assume live PTO? He is selling, asking 6500$ (NE ohio)Curious if these are good machines? are they Jap built or Case? It would be replacing my Ford 600. Thanks.

These are more of a compact tractor than a larger utility tractor. You need to drive it. It very well could not have live PTO. Live PTO was an option. They had a two stage clutch if it has live PTO. These were built by Mitsubishi for International. If the one you are looking at has Case or CIH decals then it is the last year they where sold, 1986. The information is on Tractor data under IH.

They where sold as IH 244 until 1985 than they where decaled as Case or CIH in 1986. Then they changed the model to CIH 245. It is basically the same tractor just with a little different grille. They made them until 1990.

The parts are getting hard to get as there where not many sold. CIH is carrying fewer parts for them all of the time. The common stuff is still available but other things are getting hard to find.

Also it is 21 gross horsepower and 18 PTO horse power claimed. So it would be littler than your Ford 600. SO it would depend on what you do with your tractor whether it would be a step up for you.

Thank you, and yes i have notice there arent many around, and didnt know why. Most little disels are in high demand, and it would be nice to get a clean one close to home. Sounds like it might be easier to get parts for my 600 that is 30 years older. 6500$ might be a little high.
