ot - F150 - but a tractor in the pic

A few weeks ago I posted that I was contemplating an 88 F150.

I ended up getting it for $1500.

Previous owner gave up on it. Couldn't get it running right. Real rough, very hard starting.

Got it home, threw a timing light on it - timing was about 20 degrees off. As I turned the distributur the engine smoothed right out - starts real easy now.

Was overheating - but not bad. Fan clutch was junk, threw a new one one - solved that.

Replaced a few shorted out wires to one of the fuel tanks/tail lights.

For under $200 in parts - it's on the road and running great.

The wheels and toolbox alone were worth the 1500 - I just happened to get a real nice truck stuck in between them.

Bought it for haying(tractor repairs)/home depot runs/towing some goats around so the 302 auto is fine for that.
But now I can't stop driving it for everything else.

It came with new exhaust parts - but kinda liking it loud. For a little while anyways.

Think I got pretty lucky on this one.

oops - pic didn't go through...

Well if the wheels and tool box are worth 1,500, Just keep them and I'll come get the truck!! I need a nice truck like that.

JR Sutton,

Very nice pickup and tractor. My son would be jealous of the truck... especially if you added a visor and hood scoops.

Nice truck.....but you got shorted on half of that tractor, where's the other half?......LOL....jest pullin yer chain, it looks pretty good too.

id give more than 1500 for the truck. with the 302 your not going to beable to do too much towing its got a lot of top end and no bottom end unlike the 300 straight 6. but ya you want a visor my son sells them they are easy money makers he buys and sells them and has parted a couple of these old fords out he has a 87 f150.

Mark, don't know about that towing thing. When my SIL was still on the farm before he married my daughter he towed loaded grain wagons for his dad with a 92 F150, auto, 302 with no problems except ripping the rear bumper off with about 250 bushels of high moisture corn in a gravity box. And I'm not a fan of the 302. It's OK but it's really a car engine. Once you've had a diesel or a big block nothing compares. I had a 77 F250 with a 460 and an 88 F250 6.9. Ain't no substitute for CI.

I remember your post when you were looking at the truck. Dang! you done good! I shelled out more than that a year ago for an 86 F-150 Lariat XLT with a short bed. But that is why I bought it, I had been looking for one. This one had (supposedly) a rebuilt engine and AOD trans. Trouble is, they just stuck them in the truck, fired it up, and never made any adjustments. By the time I do all the adjustments it needs I will have at least another $1000.00 in it

I'm already taking enough heat from friends about the lift - and big tires. I like the way it looks, but I won't be adding to it!

And my wife "strongly recommended" I scrape the curvy lady sticker off the back window first thing when I got it home. That one I caved on.

Agreed - all I'll tow with it is a small horse trailer with maybe 5 or 6 goats at a time. My wife's car could pull that thing.

I would have preferred the 6 cylinder, but wasn't about to pass up the truck because it was a 302.

The trucks primary use will be as a rolling tool box for fixing stuff in the field. Friends and I do a lot of haying with very old equipment - so an ongoing need.

Not that I bought it JUST for that - but point is, I think the 302 has it's place - it fits my needs just fine.

thankyou im not the only one that thinks the 302 should just be in a car. the 300 was the real work horse along with the 460.

Mark I really miss that 460. Would love to find an extended cab, 90 something EFI 250 or 350 with a 460. Right now I'm buying equipment so that's on the back burner.

Rick

ive never had a 460 ijust know they are real good. ivenever had anything besides a 300 witch is probly the best IMO. but i bet id be a lot better to have the 460 or 7.3 for what i use my 94 f150 for with those junk mazda trannies. would rather have the zf but only came in the 250 and 350.
