Best update. I brought her BACK HOME yesterday!!!

Well, I brought my girl home yesterday afternoon. She has been in rehab since last Friday, working very hard to get ready for this. Her only complaint about the rehab center was, because of her still open wound, they would not let her in the pool. This is a woman who would live in the pool if she could.

It's now 5:00AM, and I just got her up and moved into the recliner for the rest of the night. She was adamant about not having a hospital bed, but lying flat and not being able to change positions cramped her up pretty bad. She may be re-thinking that idea.

She is SO GLAD to be home that she may put up with more inconvenience than is good for her.

My sister and a friend have been in three days this week, cleaning and straightening up. A storage container was moved in yesterday, and we are going to move bunch of "stuff" right out of the house, to give her more room to get around. Another friend is coming today, and we are going to get the rails and grab bars up, so she can use the bathroom and shower.

She will be getting regular visits from a home health nurse, to change her wound dressing, and check up on her condition. I am not sure if a physical therapist will be visiting, or if she will be going out to PT. The doctor said she shouldn't return to work until the wound is completely healed.

With her at home, I will not be spending as much time on the road, and away from home, and I hope I can get some of my fall work done.

It sounds like things are going as well as they could. I wish you both the best of luck in a continued and speedy recovery. Sam

Harold,
So glad to hear she is home (hospitals are a difficult place to get much rest). Wishes for a speedy recovery!

Harold that is good to hear. My wife always did better at home. Real food and not someone poking at you all the time. We had the home health care nurse come by twice a week. For rehab her doctor told her to walk as much as she could every day.Don't let her sit in the chair 24 hours a day. Have her move when she can and feels like it. You may have to help her around. She will probably complain but it will be worth it.Sounds cruel but don't wait on her all the time. Make her do somethings by herself. My wife told me. She was mad at me for doing it to her at first. But then it made her feel good knowing somethings she could still do herself. Good therapy I guess.

Along with the bars and other handicap equipment. I put in the nonskid pads in the bath tub. Also the health care people gave us a chair that went into the tub so she could sit down and take a bath.

Glad to hear she is home.

I hate hospitals they make you sick just thinking about all the time I have spent in one in the last 15 years.
Glad to here she is doing better.
Walt

I spent 12 days in the UofM hospital burn ward after being burnt in a barn fire. They said I would be in for 6-8 weeks so I was ready for the long haul. Then after 9 days they said I'd be going home on Sunday. I'm tell you that even for being prepped to stay for weeks, Sun couldn't get here fast enough. Even while still in bad shape there is no place like HOME.

Sorry, but I missed your original post, but I am happy to hear that she seems to be improving. I will remember you in my prayers because it seems that she has a way to go yet.
