36 coupe?? Or anyone else maybe... (fence chargers)

Hey,

1) I have several 6 volt parmak lead/acid batteries for the solar fence chargers (a couple never used)..
Do these things go bad from just setting on the shelf? Or can they be revived and charged again?

2) I have several of the 6 volt solar chargers, can I test them by hooking up a 12 volt battery to them, or will it just zap them? Or, is a 6 volt battery charger OK to test them with?

3) Has anyone got one of the 6 volt parmak solar chargers that doesn't work anymore? I need a solar panel and don't really want to pay new price.

Thanks, Dave

if you hook 12 volts up to it,it will fry...i have 2 6 volt parmaks...other than batteries they have been trouble free for the past 15 years.

dumb ??????, I was tired when I asked..... I'll just get a 6v that works and check them.... The one with the bad solar panel is just shattered (but in place) glass.. Prolly a blessing in disguise as noone would want to steal something that is broke

Those unused batteries are scrap. When charging 3/4 amp is the top rate,12 volts to a 6v charger will ruin the circuit boards.A 6v solar panel cost 90 bucks last time I looked.I see no reason to use solar chargers unless you have a pasture across the highway or are stuck with a 230 volt electric service.Solar chargers are a PIA.

You can replace those solar Junkers with a good battery or
power type for the Sam price as the batteries. And they work
much better.

I know.... Have several of the parmak 12 volt ones also, just hate to let the solar ones go.....

Ive been fixing fence chargers for 60 years.Last one I bought cost 90 bucks new.A decent charger will cost 150 to 200 bucks now.
