JD-350 sickle wobble box

I got a JD 350 sickle with a 9" Bar {almost free} old owner said it keeps breaking knife bar where it attaches to arm.In about one minute I could see why that wobble box has all kind of play in it.This is my first sickle and I dont have a manual. How hard is it to rebuild that box and about how much does it cost.Also if someone has a spare manual I would be glad to buy it from them Thanks Ryan

The 350 and 450 movers are a darned good cutting mower, but the wobble box is a weak point, and often fails badly to the tune of lots of $$$$$$.

There is a pin (Key #5) that that knife drive lever pivots around that is clamped into the base of the wobble box casting.

90% of the time the mower has got to this point, the clamp area in the casting is wallowed out or broken off. A new casting, key #13, part #AE31780 is over $700.00.

SURE hope your's hasn't gotten to that point, and that a new pin (#25), bearing (#29) and a couple of bearing cups (#5) will fix it up for you!

I have 5 mowers with that same drive (#450's) laying around, with the casting bad in all of them!

Thanks for the info and picture,I will print it out hopefully It is not the casing thats bad Ill tear into her and see.Again thanks for the help.Will I need part numers for those ends and bearings or will the yahoos at the dealer be able to look them up?

Make sure you have the right guards on the knife head end of the sickle. Wrong guards (with wear bars) can cause knife to break.

Also loose pin in head causes problems.
