Topic: Farmall 656 head gasket

was assembeling engine yesterday & when I put head gasket on block I noticed the holes are not perfectly round (overlaping & not overlaping sleeve flanges). I then found old (blown) head gasket to find the same thing. They are from different manufacturers. I"m very nervous about installing this new one. What"s up?

| | Hmmm, That doesn't sound right. Down on the left side of the motor near the oil filter base, there is a flat area with the engine model stamped. I think ya gots the wrong gasket? Allan

| | Thanks for the reply...So far every thing else in the kit has been right. I wonder if they maybe get distorted on the shelf? At any rate, Im on my way to the IH dealer with both old & new gaskets. Just another delay in bringing the ole" girl back to life, but I"m having fun anyway. PS you spell your name rong ;)

| Returned from dealer/mechanic who says all is well. He suggested puting small bead of hi-temp silicone around push rod holes...supposedly helps keeep oil from weeping out. Has anyone else tried this?
