ATVs, UTVs. and gulf carts at shows????

I posted some pictures below from the Missouri Valley show at Boonville,Mo. They had a great show on Saturday. My friend and I really enjoyed it.

The negative thing was all of the butt buggies(Swiped that from TGIN below. I like it for describing the carts etc.) It made the show more difficult for those of us on foot. When ever things where going on you had two rows of butt buggies in the front blocking everyone else's view. The real annoying ones are the Polaris UTVs. They are made to run wide open and not go slow. They have an annoying engine noise. Sounded like snowmobiles everywhere.

I have gone to several shows this year. I really like how some of them limit what you can ride in the show. Even then you have to show just cause. Like a State issued handicapped permit. That way those that really need them can go see what is going on but the rest can walk just like everyone else.

It almost seemed like that many of the guys where trying to top each other in who had the biggest, largest, most expensive butt buggies.
I got out of tractor pulling thirty years ago because it became a race of check books. It looks like it is happening with the vehicles at shows now.

So what do you guys think??? I think I am going to skip the shows that let all of the butt buggies in. (Just love that term) LOL

I am an old guy. It took me all day today to recover from 1 1/2 days of walking but it really was not that hard to do. Plus it was good for my old butt.

I'm a young(er) guy, and I take my butt buggy to the larger shows.
(I just have an old slow golf cart)
But - or is that butt? - I have to agree with you. They're out of hand.
A lot of the shows here have decided to at least make you prove you have a
driver's license and insurance to be able to drive it on the grounds.
More power to 'em! I see way too many kids gunnin' for ankles!

Working with old people, and getting closer myself all the time, I like to see a person that couldn't get through a show be able to enjoy it. That's worth a little of me to keep an eye out.

But like you say, seems a whole lot of buggies going about any more, much more than needed.

The show I get to every year has golf carts only, which seems ok. But then, allt heir support staff drive Gators and Rangers, and there seems to be so very many support staff..... That it returns to a bit of a rat race.

I don't have a good answer.

I am in agreement with your sentiments concerning the, er, um,"buggies". Unless you have legitimate problems backed up by a doctors statement, then by golly, you can WALK! I only wish that I could walk the grounds at those shows like I once could. My brother in law can hardly walk anymore, but for the last several years he has two or three pieces of equipment on display. Denton Farm Park, AKA Southeastern Threshers Reunion, allows him to ride a golf cart, but he has to show proof of insurance to cover any accident. And I think his is electric. I know he had an elec. cart a few years ago. Being a welder by trade, if he wanted to he could put a Volkswagen engine in it with straight pipes, but he has more respect for others than that. Judging by the comments I have read lately, this seems to be a growing problem that will have to be addressed soon.

Went to a swapp meet this weekend, couldn't believe how many motorized vehicles there were.large diesel atvs with a pickup box.three fourths of these people were simply too fat to walk. I think they should allow handicap scooters and electric golf carts and that's all.

Most of the shows I get to require proof of need (valid state issued handicap plates or tag works) proof of insurance, a valid drivers license and a safety briefing to drive on show grounds. I have a golf cart I use on the farm to save my knees that I should be using at shows but haven't yet. Did the Dalton show with my walker. Makes me feel real old at 57 to have to use it.

I can see both sides.
They are mostly an annoyance around the shows, especially a bunch of kids on over powered lawn tractors.
On the other hand, I took a good friend of mine to his first show this year.
Former Marine, retired lawman, swat team, K9, etc, ect.
I could have walked but
He was in an accident a few years ago and mashed his leg real bad so he's a permanent gimp with a lot of pain. Handycap sticker on his car etc.
He was sure grateful I had made arrangements to borrow a golf cart from another friend of mine who was at the show.
Noisy, stinky, 2 cycle thing but it did get him (us) around to see the whole show.

One thing that seems to help is one way traffic for
buggys. They used that at RPRU in Madison WI and
it really helps.(at least you know which way they
are coming at you :))

I went to show at Lindsay Tx last weekend, sevral golf carts/4 wheelers got tired of walking but used for good excuse to sit down and visit with people that I didnt know and they didnt know me and probably never see again. But in this world of dont talk to strangers is causing lots of this problem.

I have made up my mine to keep my mouth shut on some on these topics, but this one pulls my trigger. I have quit going to shows, it's such a rat race, seems like every one is trying to show up the next guy with there ride. Use to be a couple old guys with a golf cart or garden tractor, that was ok, then kids with 4-wheelers and runnin like they were nuts. some one is going to get hurt, and every one is so rude!! get out of my way or I'll run you down!! When I can't walk anymore I will stay home! The boys and I are still tractor pullin, going to tear her down again this winter and try to find a little more grunt, and change tires and stuff, but I think next year will be the last year for all of it. I don't know what the next adventure will be but seems like it's time for a change. Maybe sniffed enough smoke and exhaust fumes, but what else is there?? Oh, baled some very, very nice hay today, I'm getting so I would rather stay home and bale hay than do anything else. Not too crowded out there!! Have a good one!

I attended 1 large show last year in Illinois and 2 there this year where you could rent goff carts, was a real pleasure to not have to walk that much distants which I never been able to do.
True were lots of them on the grounds but I didn t have a complant or any trouble with traffic.

I worked at a place which had a good number of fellows who needed an ATV to get to their huntin' area or to retrive a deer.

Their machines were a constant subject of conversation and competition.

It seems that this caused a new term to be coined for these machines: Pussgut Haulers.

Not so slim, Brad

To all concerned: I wrote the previous post and am responsible for it's content.

Surprise! My wife is posting on this board as well.

Why does a 2ft square a$$ need a 18+ sq ft mode of travel??? Real handicap (even old and sore) is one thing, lazy is another. Shouldn't be anything bigger than one of them buddy scooters like at walmart for the real bad and walkers with seats for the rest. None for kids. I could go with a "group" of needy on a golf cart, but would throw them out if I caught a healthy person riding.....

That's just me and all my people skills tho.....

Handicaped scooters, power wheelchairs, and electric mobility devices that are designed to carry only one person are exempt from these restrictions. You are free to use these around the grounds without regestering them at the gate.

I go to the shows mostly for the swapmeet stuff . You have to get right in there with there stuff to see what they got for sale , you cant see nothing buzzing up and down the laneways . I have had 5 back surgeries a hip replacment and a knee replacment on the other side and it is very hard for me to walk but I do . I have a handicap permit but I dont take that last parking spot up front because there may be someone that needs it worse than me . I have a Polaris side by side and love it on the farm but that is where it belongs , running around in a pedestrian area is no place for it !! It may come to the day I cant hobble through the shows anymore and then I will use a small elec. cart or jazzi type of thing or just stay home . I talk to alot of folks and alot of them dont go anymore because of all the carts . A few yrs. back at the Brookville IN. show it rained and then rained some more . The tire guy sold every mudslinging tire he had that would fit a cart and they were driving around just to see if they could get through it . They had it so stiredup and muddy you could not walk through it and this was not just kids the so called grownups were the worst .

The lard barges should be banned. The small narrow units intended for use on sidewalks . Are ok for the very elderly or truely handicapped from injury or disease .Other than over eating.

I am so disabled that I don't have a drivers license. I just didn't renew it 2 years ago because I didn't think I should be driving anymore.

There is no good answer now because they have let it get out of control.Just like the drug Doctors passing out drugs,we have doctors writing handicap slips out to anyone who wants one(needed or not).Example was when my mother needed one, took slip to DMV,first question was how many do you want?We had 3,(3 cars)so that meant I or anyone else could pass muster if we wanted to abuse for our own gain.Another reason is the extra income(rental kickback)the shows get.Like a couple others said,I will stay home before I become another one of the madding crowd.Where is John T.on this?? The electric personal scooter are not any better because you will see able body (people you know are)on them at indoor shows.

I agree 100%. I saw a friend's kid at the booneville show, 17 years old and he hauled his dirt bike to the show so he could ride around and sight see.

The only thing that bothers more than butt buggies are the people you see crawling around and trying to open the doors on my truck. If you want to see inside, just ask.
