(quoted from post at 09:37:56 09/08/12) dave2 if you must know it was in NW Wisconsin, didn't want to give my state a bad rep.hah

Hallejuja!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You folks in WBGVA ain't alone!!!!!!!!!!

I think Walmart is a state all it's own tho

Travelin with the wife in the States, we went in a lot of walmarts (only place to get the breakfasts of fresh lunchmeat and brotchens (rolls) that she was used to).... We'd go in a lot after midnight so we could get an early start. Always got a kick out of the difference in the crowds, seemed like there were more nice cars and snooty folks at night....

Well, those pics of Walmart people has made me believe that only slugs go there! OOOFF such a conglomeration of--well--i don't know what to say! Are they real? Or, is some other big box store, similar to Walmart, making up those photo sessions, purported to be taken in Walmart stores?

I live by a small conservative very German town, been shopping the grocery,Kmart, and Target stores since each was built. See folks just like me.

Walmart came to town couple years ago, no other changes in town, the population of the town ghas been between 13,000 and 14,000 for many decades now.

Well - you see the oddest looking people in Walmart. Don't know where they came from, where they are going, but - it's a real deal, I can shop a whiole year in all the other stores in town, and not see someone as odd as just one visit to Walmart...

Don't know why that is.

Walmart isn't doing very well, actually, only one I know that isn't open 24-7, they close at 11:00 at night. Don't know anyone who shops the grocery side of the store, I've only walked through that side 2 times, I'll buy electronics or some such there & go to the real grocery store (both of which are open 24-7) for food items.

Gotta love Walmart:

A few weeks ago I saw a ginormous motorhome, probably at a cost of $125k and gets 5 miles to th gallon on a good day. This monstrosity had in tow.......a SMART car!

It just struck me as funny that someone who could afford that get up to camp in, was driving a SMART car and shopping at Wally world.

:p

how do you think they afford the gas for the motorhome????????

They were probably camping in the parking lot. Most Walmarts allow overnighting in the parking lot.

Dave2, the snooty people with the nice cars shop late at night so their friends won't see them shopping at a discount store.

There is a country concert near us.You should see what shows up at walmart to buy beer, lawn chairs etc.One girl was wearing a bikini made from duct tape. They made her leave the store.
After the concert last year over 200 lawn chairs were left behind. Some were totally destroyed.

Wal-Mart built a new super store here it opened last August. I hear from sources the new store is doing less business than the old non-super was. I don't know if it's the economy has slid more or that folks just don't seem to like the new store or that it's out of the way. They have sold off lots around the super Wal-mart we'll see if business picks up when the rest of the mall moves down buy them.

7 miles west of me we have what I call a 2nd generation Wal-Mart. Little bigger than the stores old Sam started with, but still awfully small compared to most of the Big Box stores. 7 miles east there is a Super-Center. I much prefer the smaller store. It has a small selection of groceries, but I still go to the grocery store if I want groceries. Usually can get in and back out in a reasonable time. Need to plan on an afternoon if we want to go to the Super-Center for some reason. Can"t park within a 1/2 mile, stuff we want is invariably in opposite corners of the store necessitating another 1/2 mile or more of walking, lines are longer...

Unfortunately, plans have been approved for a Super-Center to take the place of our small store. Probably see it coming out of the ground next spring. Not sure where I will shop then.

Yea, I hate that. Some brilliant MBA decided that making customers walk past all their wonderful displays would increase sales. Except it annoys me so much I just don't go in the store.

Here (southern New Mexico) Walmart is booming. They had the highest grossing store in the chain here for several years. You could hardly get a parking spot at 10 pm. Two large grocery chains left town. Walmart built a second super center less than 10 years ago and is now is putting up a third. The grocery section is packed day and night but the selection is getting smaller. They only stock fast moving items. And, yes you do see the oddest looking people at Walmart.

Hey, no body goes there anymore cause its too crowded!!!!

We dont dare go there in primetime on fridays-sunday cause you might loose your life.. or a foot or toe.

Don't laugh, my uncle and wife traveled for years after retiring, in big old used motor homes they could buy cheap. They built whirlygig wind toys and sold them at fairs and craft shows all over the country. They about made gas money to feed that 6 mpg monster, selling the wind toys. Excess space in the motor home was devoted to knocked down wind toys. They assembled them as they needed more. They had hundreds in there in broke down form.

They always flat towed a little Bronco for a run aroud car. Uncle said many times when they had to climb steep mountain roads, Ma would drive the tow bar hooked Bronco and dad drove the old 440 motorhome. The might of the 440 and 302 combined would take them up those steep mountain passes in second gear, while the 440 alone struggled up there in 1 st gear. :)

Oh man, I was at a farm auction today!!!!

At least I didn't see any cousins.....

My sister works at Wal-Mart. Told me sometimes she doesn't know weather to laugh or throw up. At some people that show up.

Ray, I think you just told me where you are from, 47 just west of 66? 60 mile from Berne?

See lots of converted buses with a small car on a trailer. good for sightseeing transportation.Instead of 5mpg they get 50.
more drive for your dollar.

Exactly....... Prolly includes a lot of the "be American, buy American" folks here too  Always quality entertainment... They started a walmart deal over here several years ago also, didn't take hold and they closed quick. Folks here just ain't ready for 24/7 shops of any kind. Most everything (except eateries and gas stations) closes by 2000 and is closed on Sunday. No trucks (bigger than 7.5 ton) on the roads after I think 2200 on Saturday until 0001 Monday.

Last fall I was at a farm sale and there was a 70ish year old man with a college Sorority shirt on. It was the one my wife was in back in the day. I got a good pic on my cell phone and sent it to all her college buddies. They still laugh about it.
