Thanks Buck520 for posting those pictures.. It would knock down a lot less wheat when using a mounted spray rig.. a lot less wheat lost..
1st time I ever saw that type wheel and I've been looking at tractors for 70+ years..
I guess it would open up the soft ground to let water run out.. water would then widen the cut real fast..

they are correct, the are what we call in south la. puddling wheels. they are for going into soft ground/standing crops with minimal damage to existing crops on spray rigs. Also used after flooding fields to go through standing water pockets on less than level ground to drain water out of puddles in the fields. they are also used on 4x4 atv"s to drain the fields too. you would be surprised at how effective they are and how little washout there is afterwards unless on really sloped sandy land.

local blacksmith made one similar 30 years ago using VW engine for power, narrow steel wheels.....for spraying in extremely wet fields.

(quoted from post at 21:47:20 09/07/12) So that would make it a 4020 ON STEEL???
Quite a few 4020s (and others) around here on steel, just not that steel.
The Menonites use them but don't use rubber tires.

Thanks for all the replies that"s interesting and I"d love a pic of a 4020 on regular steel wheels like the Mennonites have
