OT: ??? about .22 in 1911 frame

A year or two ago I got a Springfield Armory 1911 mil-spec .45, and recently I’ve become interested in having a .22 in the 1911 frame (cheaper, quieter practicing.) I decided I did not want to get a conversion kit, but a stand-alone .22 pistol.

I see Browning has a new .22 1911 for about $500, really nice-looking pistol but it’s a scaled-down size. The one that really has me interested is one made in Germany by German Sports Guns (GSG), which is in full size (and only four or five ounces lighter), and which runs about $350-$400. I’ve read some very good reviews on the web, and also heard a glowing report on “Gun Talk”. Anyone familiar with this gun?

Another question: As I understand it, it either comes with or you can get a barrel that is threaded for a suppressor. They will even sell you a “fake” suppressor. I see lots of references to “fake suppressors” in other gun reports, and I have to ask what is the purpose and benefit of a fake suppressor?

What I would like to have is a .22 1911 with a real suppressor, and maybe someday even a .45 with same. Can the fake suppressors be doctored to make them semi or fully effective? What’s involved in getting a real suppressor? Anybody familiar with this area?

That fake suppressor may work on the 22 anyway.... As a kid, we'd shoot the 22's thru a plastic pop bottle and you barely heard them.

The silencer is a $200 stamp, a little paperwork with a photo, and about a six to eight month wait for it to clear, same thing for short shotgun, full auto, short barrel rifle, etc. unless your state don't allow them. Get caught with any of these and no paper means to prison you'll be goin'.

Grandson has one.

Trigger is a little heavy, and it's most reliable with high velocity ammo like CCI Minimags, but other than that, no issues at all.

The failures to feed with standard velocity ammo will likely subside as the gun gets a few miles on it and loosens up a little.

Basically a fake supressor is a cool factor thing for the mall rangers. No real bennie.

Want an interesting read look up what happened to the secret service and the results of training with different loads when the Truman assasination attempt was made.

Don't get me wrong I shoot 22 some just because I like to shoot and my 22 pistol is my carry gun on the tractor for small critters. But if you are trying to practice for personal defence gun you should be shooting that gun with the normal carry load.

What your talking about is a class III gun license. You were talking about the silencer. If you call it a silencer you need a licence but if you call it a muzzle brake you don't need a license.

36Coupe: Thanks. I do like the looks of that .22/.45, but I already have a Mark III with six-inch barrel, and I just had my mind set on a 1911 clone.
