My brother just came back from the west and was telling me about all the good grain corn fields he saw in North Dakota, and south Sask. Anyone able to confirm this for me , or is he just pulling my leg. When I was there last year, we saw no corn , just small grain and soy. Bruce |

Must be why I notice a lot of new JD combines going north. At least 2 a day-sometimes 3.

Lot of corn being grown in this part of the state{Minot}. It kind of took the place of sunflowers I think. Still have sunflowers but not as many acres. Some farmers say the hot weather came too soon with no rain and the corn may not be as good. Time will tell.

Yes, much of ND has a very good looking corn and soybean crop, one of the best ever. This area used to grow only a little silage corn (20-40 years ago), but now their are many good corn and bean varieties that do well in our short growing season and lower rainfall. Right in my area of central ND, expectations are for 150+ bu corn and 50bu soybeans. Look at the US drought map, very little of ND is involved. Supprisingly, the RR Valley which was the earliest and best corn and bean area of ND is suffering pretty badly from drought.

Near Grand Forks there is beautiful corn fields. They have had good rains all season. There was many reports of 100 bu spring wheat without irrigation and record being set in other crops.

Bruce I don't know but about 20 years ago you saw no corn between Fargo and Devils Lake ND. Then corn broke $5 a B and now there a good number of corn fields there now. Seems that the newer corn seed can yield 200 BPA in the colder areas now.
Would not be a bit shocked if they were growning corn like mad out there now.

That's what I've heard on the farm shows. That new hybrids and GMOs make it possible to grow some decent corn up there.
