MF 175 Starting Issue

Laporte Help

I have a MF 175 went to start the other day turned the key gauges move but no engine turn over. Put on battery charger for a little while tried again nothing. So i took the battery charger to boost put one lead on the ground and one on the input to the starter and again nothing turned. Checked all wires they seem to be intact but the starter will not turn over the engine at all so looking for any input to check before I have to call a mechanic??

Pull the starter off and either take it to an auto parts place to have it checked or do a charger spin over test your self. Doing it your self will not tell you it is for sure good just tells you it will spin. Then also see if the engine can be turned by hand which is easy just use a large screw driver etc and turn the flywheel that way

Does it have either a neutral or clutch safety switch? That's where I'd start. I had one a White a few weeks ago that wouldn't even click til I kicked the clutch down real hard. I had to adjust the switch. It was out of whack from normal wear in the pedal bushing.

Normally I would agree with you but he said he went straight to the starter with the booster and doing so should have at least caused it to turn over a little bit

Is yours a key start, or do you have a push button, either way, turn the key, or push the button and with a test light see if you have juice at small post on the starter. If so, then perhaps a bad starter, or if no juice, check back to the switch or push button.

Threw the starter hole when you remove the starter. It is simple to take a big flat tipped screw drive and stick it in the ring gear teeth and turn it some so as to make sure the engine is not locked up

Try tunking on it with a hammer while you try to start it. If the brushes are getting bad they might not be making contact. Had one I had to do that on a few months ago.
