Why can't they take my oil?

I went to several oil dump sights to dump my tractor trans fluid. When they saw the pail, they said we can't take that oil, only enging oil. What is the difference it's still oil. Stan

Just take it in engine oil pails. There is no difference, you don't want any large quanity of it on the ground.

(quoted from post at 12:09:54 09/04/12) Because they're mind numbed robots, the great corporate God has spoken and they shall obey.

They're doing what the boss told them to do. I thought we were all complaining how kids these days don't listen and do what they're told.

As long as it doesnt have water in it then reuse it. Put it through a tube sock to filter the contaminants out of it and use it for other stuff.

Well, you could put it in an "Oil" bucket, then dump it. If you were close to me I"d take it, as I can filter it down to 2 microns, then burn it in my Military Truck that has a multi-fuel engine in it. Free fuel is always welcome.

There are people around here with waste burners that leave me a drum and come get it when full, they take all gear oil, motor oil, hydraulic, trans, etc.

Put it all in one barrell

I take anything ! Burn it all . Hopefully will have some more getting dropped off , barrels are lil low to get through the winter.

I remember as kids dumping barrels full, on dusty gravel roads. Fact is, there are bacteria, in the soil, that break it down, just look at the Gulf, where is all that oil, now? The reason I recycle, is not junk science, just economics ( and we ain't on a gravel road, anymore!)

The only thing I can think of is they only want oil with engine oil additives so they can recycle it back into engine oil easier. I don't know if it makes sense but it's about the only thing I can come up with. Jim

suuuuuuush about bacteria in the soil that breaks down oil you be jeopardizing someone agenda and anothers job, some people will believe anything,we were working up north in february on a yard that was covered with a least a foot or so of crush and run that had heavy equip. and trucks run over it for several years, line blew on the loader might have lost 5 gallons of hyd oil, had to call a spill response team to clean it up,about 6 hours latter they finally got it all up, samples tested ok,funny thing was the ground was froze as hard as a table top, they literally took picks and shovels to dig it down about 6 inches covering a 10'x 10' area to the tune of 2000 dollars, there is no way that oil could soaked that deep as hard as it was froze, even if it had been boiling, cause the wind blew 20 mph or more and the temp never reached 20 degrees all day

All the oil in the gulf is on the sea floor because of the chemicals they put on it. Still have tar balls being washed up on the beaches.

While it is true the sea has bacteria that will break down oil it takes many years for that much oil to be broken down.

Never had a problem with the guys who have waste oil burners taking mine, a combo of engine oil, trans. oil, hydraulic oil, etc. It all burns.

Wish you were closer I would filter it out then use it in either my old diesel pickup or one of my diesel tractors. I ran about 90% waste oil this hay season in my tractors, sure helps out the piggy bank not having to burn expensive diesel fuel.
