need some info here will a 850 round baler bale 12"

Yes just did with mine all I did was put three windrows together.

Those old balers will bale just about any thing. Big trick is the size of the windrow and the speed you run the tractor. To slow and you get a very heavy bale to fast and you get a bale that is not very tight

It will bale it, providing it's not too dry and brittle, My 851 will bale anything, except extremely dry grass, I plugged mine 3 times on late first cutting that had too much dead grass in it, if it's green, and a full windrow, you should be fine.

Time of day makes a big difference too . My 847 would not feed dry oat straw at all yesterday but by 10:00 pm the humidity was up enough that the straw just rolled up and into the bale chamber perfect. I've had the same problem with hay on a hot dry day.
