Made 830 bales from about 20 acres. 5 1/3 loads, after I had my brother's wagon loaded about 1/3 way and it became a self-unloading wagon because it wasn't secured down good enough. That was ok though as we needed the wagon space and it's easier to pick up 50 bales from one pile in the field instead of in several windrows.

He just built it this year and it was the first time we used it for hay. I was just putting the 2nd bale up on the 6th layer and I felt it going. No back so it just slid right off Couldn't do much but hold on to something at that point... Brought it home, bolted it down and went back at it. His wagon is the one on the far left in the picture. Home built running gear he got from the junk yard for $100. The rest he got for free or we had it laying around.

We've done 3rd crop in august before, but we got a week ahead in may on 1st crop. There is a slight potential for 5th crop, depending on the frost and the weather. That we've never done before.

2nd and 3rd crop were on the light side, 2nd being 6 loads of chopped haylage and 3rd being a few loads of chopped and about 310 bales of rained on hay. 4th is twice as thick as 3rd crop was and this stuff is pure candy for the girls.

Today I get to take the day off from the farm and go to the county fair with my wife & son. Not too often I get to have a day off between my day job and helping my parents out. This week I'll be putting the corn head on our new (to us) chopper. I got to try it out in some marsh grass and it impressed me. Chops it finer than our Fox, and still uses a little less power.

Corn should be fun.

It has been a great year for hay in southern Mn and Wisc. for the most part. I put up 3rd cutting alfalfa the first week of August and have never done that ever in over 40 yrs. of farming. We only have beef cattle and I know the dairy guys try and get more cuttings than the beef guys. Never know, next year it might be our turn to be on the short side, so a little extra this year might come in handy next year.

Looks like some nice hay, and good weather for making it dry.
