ROPS for older tractor

After reading about the tragedy at the Nebraska State Fair I've about convinced myself that I want to add a ROPS to my existing tractor, which came without one.

Is there a supplier or manufacturer who builds ROPS for older tractors ? I have a 1967 International 424.

One problem with a ROPS is you also need to have seat belts or you can be thrown off. As for one made for that tractor it is new enough that there may well be ones made for it. I remember back when I was around 10-12 going to a local fair and the JD Dealer had a tractor there showing off the new ROPS on one of there tractors. It was sitting there with the front end pointing to the sky and sitting on the back wheels and the rops holding it that way

DOn't know if they make'em for that small a tractor or not,but Saginaw County Tractor is the source for ROPS for older tractors. Do a search for them.

Not a bad idea, make sure you add a seat belt too.

there are several suppliers for rops for older tractors. i have gotten them from saf-t-cab and hercules. laurin makes them for some models.

AG48: many states have a rebate program to help farmers purchase ROPS for their tractors. Just check at your local extension office. Iowa has one and it is $250. It has been years since I have handled getting one but I am sure the program is still thee.

Here is the link to the page on Kentucky Rops guide for the IH models. Just pick yours. It would seem that there are three suppliers that list one for your tractor.

Is the rebate a State one or is it nationwide ?

Not for your situation but if one is the owner of an older KUBOTA without a rops there is a company program that helps pay for the rops to any owner, you do not have to be the original owner. Does not apply to Grey market tractors.
As the other posters pointed out be sure and add seat belts.

like old said, rops must be used with seat belts, or it does no good and may even reduce your survivability, seat belts need to be strongly anchored, like grade 8 bolts to the tractor chassis, the best rops in the world is the operator, if it looks dangerous it probably is dont do it, wheeled tractors do not have the gradability of crawlers and should not be operated on sideslopes, loading rear end forward onto a trailer will prevent the tractor from climbing its ring gear, and flipping over on top of you, not to mention its easier to unload it too

If you had suggested a rops to that 75yr old or using a winch. You would have been at best told to mind your own business. And more likely to have caught a cursing. Because he had been loading tractors for 65 years without a problem and knew what he was doing.
Always seems to be somebody cutting corners to save time and money.
I've seen fools at shows trying to load and unload steel wheeled tractors on sloped decks. As the wheels spins and skid. Didn't seem to bother the drivers at all.
Packing that extra narrow front tractor on the trailer is another classic.

Kansas man killed in tractor accident at Nebraska State Fair

A 75-year-old Kansas man was killed Sunday morning when he was loading his antique tractor at the Nebraska State Fair.
Charley DeWeese of Thayer, Kan., was loading his 1936 John Deere tractor when the right back tire went off the loading ramp, causing the tractor to flip. DeWeese was driving the tractor at the time of the accident and was thrown from the tractor and pinned underneath it as it toppled over, according to Nebraska State Patrol Lt. Dennis Leonard.
“The back wheel just came off the ramp,” Leonard said.
The Grand Island Fire Department was called, but DeWeese died at the scene, Leonard said.
DeWeese had come to the Nebraska State Fair with his wife and was part of Saturday’s world record-setting antique tractor parade, Leonard said.
RFD-TV set out to break the previous Guinness Book of World Records of 745 classic tractors in a parade. More than 1,100 tractors were preregistered for Saturday’s event. The parade got started about 40 minutes late Saturday due to rain, but the record was broken with tractors that were at least 30 years old and drove the entire two-mile parade route.
Sunday’s accident happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. in the new east overflow parking lot located on the east side of Stuhr Road. That lot served as a staging area for the antique tractors, Leonard said.
Officials with the Nebraska State Fair declined to comment on Sunday’s accident.
