Champ forklift

I have a Champ CB50 forklift. It's a pneumatic tired forklift with a 6000 lb capacity. I need a user or shop manual and some advice. The machine has a 6 cylinder Chrysler flat head gas engine. I cannot locate the oil filter. There is a stem protruding from the block that appears to be where one would go but it has a blind flange capping it. Is it possible that these machines were designed without an engine oil filter and require more frequent oil changes instead?

Steven , all the flathead Chryslers have a full flow canister filter . Contact me , I may have some more info for you .For 30 years I worked at a company that had a fleet of Champs. Best forklift you could find !!

Let me modify my statement: The filter used on Champs was a full flow . The early cars and trucks used a bypass type.

Is that the same family of flat heads used in Massey combines? There was a canister on those but they may have moved it off of the block if it's tight quarters.

Like I said there is an approximately 2 inch stem protruding from the bottom of the block just above the oil pan in the middle of the engine. It cants down at a 45 degree angle and is capped with a five bolted blind flange that ironically looks kind of like a Chrysler emblem. I have crawled around all under this thing and other than power steering pump filter and hydraulic system filter I've found no others. Not being up on this sort of thing I just wondered if it were possible that there was not supposed to be a filter.

That is the oil pump. It is external on these engines.

Filter is a bypass type plumbed into the other side of the block, just above the pan flange. Not all engines have a filter, but you can add one. Find a housing on ebay or swap meet. Filter mounts to the cylinder head on the same side as it is plumbed into.

How is the full flow filter plumbed into the system? I would be interested as I have never seen this. I drive three cars with Chrysler flatheads.

You can get a filter housing from anyone who supplies parts for old VW Bugs, they are around $15. the outer line is the pressure and the center is the return. They will accept a fram PH8a filter.

Hi DARabbit. I have a Champ 530STS rough terrain lift and am looking for replacement forks. 48"-50" would be OK but 60" would be better. The current ones are 2"x5"x50" with a 2" eye for rod mount and 35" center of eye to bottom of fork-heel.
Thank you, MKM Group

Welcome to the Forums.

Hopefully you get a response from someone. It appears datrabbit made that one post a couple years ago and no more since.

Have you web searched for the forks by the dimensions, without tying them to Champ? They may have used the same forks as some other machine.
