Went over that pass in early October in nice snowstorm.
Used to travel to CO. Every fall to get out of the Texas hotbox & look at the aspens..
Would take motorcycle in the truck, camp out & ride the bike on day trips. Could travel much faster with the bike. Used to stay in most of the wilderness areas to get away from the land yaughts & screaming kids & boom boxes. Covered just about every out of the way spot in CO. Loved Grand Mesa, great view from the edge.
Nothing like eating a rainbow trout freshly caught & pan fried over a campfire.

DeltaRed/Steve&Susan,

Wow! You two are blessed with a beautiful area to live. I love your old pickups. Love the snow covered building. And last but not least, I would drive SO SLOW there...it would freak me out, I am a flatlander. Thanks so much for sharing!

Been there done that in the Fall of 1981 along with Pikes Peak. The aspens in the lower elevations had just turned color. It was breath taking!

It was probably 15 years ago since I went through there. They had a mudslide and we had to wait 3 hours for them to clear it.

Delta Red, did you ever go up the 'original' Monarch Pass? My dad came home on a leave by Motorcycle (Harley Davidson 45 that was salvaged from a sunken ship) during the Winter back in the Forties. Always wanted to go that way, but I think it's now closed. Have a BIL in Montrose-beautiful country.
