Trust the weatherman or the signs

Planning to cut hay this morning. Every forcast I've seen says no rain til Monday, but there wasn't any dew this morning. Makes me nervous. That's usually a sure sign of rain within 24 hours. Cows weren't laying down though,so I don't know what to think.

I don't trust the "weathermen" period. We don't even get proper forecasts. All we hear is about "gusty" winds, "chances" of this or that, "isolated" this or that, etc. Completely useless.

No dew and the cows were laying down. Really? I didn't realize this was this serious. I think you should just have a beer and chill out. Man...you're really stressing.

We're looking to start baling today. 4th crop that was over my knees, cut monday and tuesday evenings. I was raking the last of it last night. No dew and a light breeze all night should have the first nights hay ready by the time I'm out of work.

Well just to let you know we have rain here in Missouri so it may in fact be heading your way soon. Rain started last night and we only had a 20% chance last night and a 90% today. So far we have gotten a little over 1-1/4 inch and it is still coming down.
Now for a question. What the heck is hay have not seen any of it growing since back in May when I baled what little we had

Wish I had some descent quantity of hay to get rained on. 1st crop was ok, 2nd and 3rd, are about 25% of what they should have been, I cut some new seeding last night, the alfalfa was 3-6 inch tall and lambsquarter was 12+ in. I wanted to keep the weeds from getting to big so I cut it, looks like about 5-6 5x5 rounds on about 6 acres. Been struggling with hay all season, a waterway I make 3 crops on every year, and I end up with 28-33 round bales, this year I am up to 9 and that looks like about all I am going to get.

What are you expecting from the weatherman? Exact wind speed predictions on a minute-by-minute basis? Exact coordinates for rainfall?

Frankly they've been surprisingly accurate. We've had nothing but gusty winds and isolated rain most of the summer.

Ouch!

I find that I have to give the weather forecasters a lot of credit. I have been making hay for 26 years and it is vastly different from when I started. Think what sort of a forecast you got before they had all the satellites up there. Once this summer I had a good forecast and I cut quite a bit. There were rain clouds showing on the radar during the whole three days but they stayed about thirty miles off to the north. The forecasters were confident that the rain would be held off by the high pressure to the south and it was. I have to give them credit.
