Ford truck that is. (But I do have a tractor)

My Ford truck is a 1991 F150 with automatic transmission. I noticed that when I shift into reverse, the voltmeter drops by about 2 to 3 volts and stays there while in reverse.. Then goes back to normal reading when switched out of reverse.

I haven't checked anything as yet. Anyone else had this problem or have ideas as to what is causing it?

Thanks

Just a swag, but disconnect the backup light switch and see what happens......... Maybe you have one shorting a little???

Auto trans in gear loads engine. Out of gear engine idles faster. Situation normal looks like to me. Faster idle more charging. Slower idle less charging. Dave

Your reverse lights are coming on - if if you only turn your fog lights on and get nearly the same voltage change its either a weak alternator or an overly sensitive gauge.

If it was that slowly moving forward would do the same thing, he says nothing about that, only in reverce.
