OT-EHD in MO Deer

I was out last night and came across this healthy looking but dead doe fawn. I found it next to our drying up pond bank. No sign of trauma or anything. I posted this picture on another website and people sent me articles from MO conservationist warning of EHD in mo deer because of the drought. I was wondering if other guys in Mo have come across dead deer by water. If so the mo conservationinst wants to know. I don't know what killed this fawn for sure, but I thought I would pass this on. I had not heard of EHD. I have heard of blue tongue and CWD but not EHD. Apparently when in drought conditions this fly lays eggs in the mud of dried up ponds and it infects the deer and the hemmorage in various organs. Sort of sad we have been watching 5 fawns grow in our backyard since they were born in May/June. I am thinking this was one of the 5.

Haven't found any dead ones but sure know they are on the move which is odd for this time of year. The boy has had more then one run in with them on the roads when he comes home from work. Some how when you are driving home around 1am the deer seem to be in the way on many a night

They will travel more in search of suitable
water, then return to their home turf...

This month's MO Conservationist mag has an article about it. Several counties in North-Central MO seeing lots of it. So much so that they have prompted restrcitions on wildlife feeding and cancelled the 4 point restriction "because mature bucks are more likely to have the disease". So this another reason against their point restrcitions - which in my oppinion is only designed to draw in more out of state money. I believe non-res deer tag is $250.00. I have nothing aganst non-res hunting here.

Fred the article in the conservationist was about cwd cronic wasting disease its totally different.
blue tongue or EHD is caused by the midge fly not so sure what causes cwd. I have property in the restricted area for cwd it seems this first appeared at a deer breeding facility in macon county
