I would like to change the coolant on my 02 F 450. It has a V10. I can see no place to put in the new coolant. What am I mising? I am thinking of using Prestone the green stuff, when I figure how to add it. Will the prestone be ok, or does Ford have something I should use? Thanks for any info. Stan

Look in the owners manual for coolant type, and use only that. I'm going to say it's probably HOAT type (G-05). Which can only be had from ZEREX in the Gold jug. NAPA or Car Quest come to mind. There are all makes all models types of coolant but the price is the same for it. So why not put in what's recommended.

While your at it, I'd do all the hoses and the thermostat. The new coolant goes in to the overflow jug opening. Be sure to mix the first gallon 50/50 in a bucket before you pour it in. It doesn't hurt to do them all that way.

Anything that is "Old-Style" Permanent Anti-Freeze and Safe for Aluminum is my preference..

There ARE horror stories of original "Factory" Coolants eating up the new engines..

Ron..

Right about the 2002-2003 year, Ford changed from the old traditional green to G-05. G-05 is available at NAPA and a few other select part stores. Look in your operator's book to see what it takes, but the G-05 and the green is really not compatible with each other and you should't mix them. G-05 shouldn't be mixed with DexCool either.
For a good chart to view (but isn't always completely accurate) do a Google search for "Xerox Antifreeze Coolant Application Chart". Make sure you also view page two of the chart where it explains each coolant. Anyway, go by what your operator's manual says.

I did a typo. Try "ZEROX antifreeze coolant application chart". It might get you to antifreeze instead of copiers......

I'm sure Ford will have a special coolant that cost $18/gal or some silly thing. I would flush it out real well and put green stiff in it that is compatible with aluminum if that's what you need(low phosphate I think). Everybody says the two aren't compatible, so just clean it out best you can, replace with green, and forget about it.
