Sorta OT, but it's still a tractor; a highway tractor, actually. I have a lead on a Hayes HD in good shape, but the engine is done in. It's a 350 or 400 small cam Cummins. I was wondering if the mounts were the same for a big cam 3 or 4. If it'll drop right in, I'd sooner put in a big cam than rebuild the old small cam.

I'd try a 600 hp N14, but they already have them stinkin' computers in em'.

Back in the day Pop put 270 NA pistons in his 335 turbo. She ran like a scolded dog loaded, but you had to be careful in the hills. she'd burn a piston at the drop of a hat, if the EGTs got too high.

Those were the days. Taking an antifreeze bath, while jacking the number 6 sleeve out of the block.

Trkr is correct there is a mechanical version of the
N-14. FIL switch his 350 bc for a N-14 mechanical
and what a difference in power.

There is a mechanical version of the N-14.Uses a PT pump, just like a BC/SC engine.

My son worked for a guy with a fleet of semi's,Cats and Computerized N-14s,and one mechanical N-14.The drivers would fight over who drove the mechanical N-14 because it ran so well.Only downfall was no cruise.

If you can swing the N14 $ wise, it might be worth another look. I don`t much care for computers either, but the N14 is in a different league than the NTC series. Much better driveabiity, though over 500hp they don`t live long.

Lyndon,

Big cam or big cam 2 or 3 will fit with

minor changes ,BC 4 uses different radiator
because it has the low flow system and has 2
separate circuits . Also it can be a pain.
If you need to build an engine ,build a CPL
# 266 ,it's an early BC 350 ,runs well and
will make jersey smoke test, also will whip
most 400 cats while getting good milage. I
built 2 of them for the neighbors and both
are happy ,I use one of them when I need to
move dozers or concrete blocks.
