How old are Wards Riverside tires?

I've got a Wards Riverside Power Trac tire on one of my tractors.
It's about junk from dry rot, but good tread and still holding air.
Just wondered how old it was.
I found this ad when I Googled it. Mine is a 10x28, and I'd love to buy
a few for $47 each!

I can't remember when Monkey-Wards went belly up. But I'm sure they had quit selling tractor tires long before that. I know Sears quit offering Tractor tires years before they closed the catalog division in '93.

I would say that it would have to be 30+. I remember when they went broke, I just don't remember the year. I believe they quit selling their own brand of tires long before they went broke though. Their headquarters was in Ft.Worth Tx. I live about 60 mi from there. I remember several interesting things about Montgomery Ward. One thing during World War II, The President received a draft notice and refused to go. He thought that he was too important. There was a picture in the newspaper of the Army MPs dragging him out of his office. In the spring of 49 there was a flood and water got up in the second story of their main building. I believe it was that same year, they had big plate glass show windows around the first floor where they displayed a lot of merchandise. They always had Christmas decorations in the windows which included life sized reindeer and sleigh. The marketing director put a red flashing light on the nose of the lead reindeer and Rudolph was born. The first Radio Shack store was across the street from the main MW building. Back to tires, my dad would not buy any other kind. I bought a cement mixer from them on sale way back for $49.95. I now have a hydraulic motor and a skid steer attachment on it and use it on the front of my tractor. Lots of things change.

i don't think the old 'real' wards power trac tires were ever sold in the 'new sizes', '55 and later. wards started buying tires on the open market around that time. i have a pair of 12x38 and a set of 11x38 power trac tires. i sure would like to find a pair of 13x38 power tracs.

I can remember buying a set of 4 riverside tires in 1965 to put on a Falcon. The entire set with mounting and balancing was a little over $40. I was making about $3 per hour back then. Good tires.

We drove by the main office on the way to the stock yards many times. If I remember correctly. There was a marker on the building. To show where the flood level was in 49. The tornado that went through downtown Fort Worth. Did some damage to the building and yard.

Firestone was making the Wards passenger, truck and tractor tires. Lots of them. The plant in Memphis closed in 1982 and I believe Ward dropped that bussiness about that time.

I've got a pair of them on my Oliver 70. 11x40s. I don't know how old they are,but they're pretty solid yet.

Had a neighbor next to us in the 50's that said, needed Oliver tractors with Monkey-Ward tires to farm right.
