Don"t have a lot of time, but know all you can help. Changed compressor and now I can not get the new compressor to engage. Of course, since the compressor won"t engage, can not get r134a in there. I know there is a way to jump the relay on the compressor, but can not figure out how to do it. Can any of you guys help to get me back up and going. I"ll check back later if there are any questions.

I usually just use a jumper wire from the battery to the compressor clutch. Just unplug it and use the jumper wire until you have enough freon in it to keep the low pressure switch engaged.

OK, talk me through this. Take a wire from the positive battery cable to the compressor wire harness. This should engage the compressor, correct?

Just adding R134 until the compressor engages is enough usually. The compressor may cycle but will run continously once enough is added. Never had to jump the clutch. Putting the can of R134 in a pan of warm water will help charge the system.

You just need to get power to the electric clutch wire. Just make sure you are not on the ground wire. Some of the newer clutch's ground through the harness.

You may also try just putting some freon in and it should get the pressure high enough to start the clutch running, like Roger posted.

Are you using small cans or a 30# tank??? If it is the little cans then they may not evaporate enough to charge it without the clutch running.

If you just replaced the compressor, you need to pull a vacuum on the system first to purge the air out of the system. This will also help with pulling in the initial charge of R134a. If you don't vacuum out the air, the system won't work much better than it did with the broken compressor.

You don't need the compressor to engage to add 134a to the system. There should not be much pressure in the system, but there is in the can, so it will flow in. Previous poster was right about pulling a vacuum on the system. This is a must do to ensure proper cooling and long system life. Take it to a shop and pay for an evacuation and/or a recharge. If the compressor still won't engage you have other issues like transducer, clutch etc. Gerard

87 to 30 0n the relay energizes the relay and engages the clutch. If this happens you most probably have a control side issue. Relays have a power side and a control side.
