Shelter Logic and other canvas buildings

What are your opinions of these tube-and-canvas buildings like the ones from Shelter Logic?

Need more barn space but the previous owner already went way beyond the 600 square foot utility building limit with a variance before I moved in. Odds of getting another variance to add on are slim to none.

A tube-and-canvas building would be considered "temporary." The big plus is it wouldn't cost much if I did end up having to take it down.

How are they for snow load? How long does the canvas last?

There's one at a local private airport that's been there at least 14 years with no signs of deterioration. Not sure what brand.

What size are you talking about?

I got a 12X20 unit from TSC a coupla years ago. The fabric was warranteed for 12 months, and started deteriorating at about 18 months.

When I get a chance, I'm going to take the fabric off and replace it with steel roofing.

WeatherPort! With the proper hurricane guys those
things will outlast a hurricane. They are a local
company that is now sold worldwide.

Check out the ones on Farmtek's web site. They are located in Dyersville Iowa. There are a bunch of them around me here. Used for equipment storage to cattle and hog barns. They are lasting well. Good friend has one that is fifteen years old that he stores equipment in. It is still in good shape.

Shelter Logic is a waste of money Neighbor had 2 garage size. poles are to far apart. On his both of them tore right down the seams from the snow load. Grandson has one and he is out there every time it snows taking the snow off His is kinda shaded most of the time so it may last longer.
I have a Farmtek bought it supposedly on sale supposed to be $850 according to Catalog was over a thousand when I got it. Then they send you a catalog every month with the sale price still in it. Wonder what they cost these days. Mine is right out in the sun for about 4 years the fabric is holding up quite well. The zippered doors leave a little to be desired. If I did it again I would try one of those Aluminum buildings and pay a little more.

If you are in an area of wind it will not hold up. I had the 12x20 from TSC. Got a great deal on it the day after Thanksgiving. Tarp ripped from the wind. TSC gave me a new one. Then 65mph winds folded like a pretzel. I had even added cross braces to help with the wind.

I was kinda suprised it lasted as long as it did. Needed something for a little while for temporary storage.

If you buy it with the understanding it is temporary, you wont be upset when it gets taken out by high winds or snow load. $250 dont buy a lot these days, so dont expect too much. But it should get you by for a while. Mine made it 2 1/2 years.

I have seen the wind take out different ones quick, specially the cheaper ones.
I have a RoundTop brand 12x20 that I bought at Harbor Freight 10 years ago.
It runs East/West with the door to the East and has not had any trouble.
The canvas/plastic/tarp is deteriorating now, and I can't find a replacement.
Menards sells that brand now, but HF does not. I don't know if they're the same.

Got a 10x20 from TSC. I"m in upstate NY,never had a problem with snow load, although I do clean it off after a good storm. Fabric gave out after about 4 years, replaced it with a siver tarp and got another 3 years. Anchor it well and there is not a wind problem, mine has stood up to any and all winds that we have had. I got mine on sale for 299.00, not bad for the service I got from it. Frame is still good,so I to am watching CL for used steel to cover it with.

There are several BIG ones I go by here in Kansas. The biggest is probly 100x300ft. Riding arena I think. I bet it is 40 ft to the peak.Been there 6 years and see no difference than the day it was erected. It has stood up to the Kansas wind so it must be OK. I don"t know the brand but have seen them at the farm shows.
