Below in the discusion about obsessed mowers someone posted a link about co2 emissions that sounded suspicious to me. After all I do burn gas in my tractor. So I did some research, the world uses 30 billion barrels of crude per year, it breaks down to about 6-8 barrels/ton depending on density. So that means we use about 4.28 bil tons/year. The world uses about 4.55 billion tons/year of coal.
So my question would be, how does 8.83 bil tons of fossil fuels creat 24 billion tons of co2? And that doesn't take into account that about half is never burned because it is used for other uses such as plastic, lubrication, paint, ect. Of course I'm just a dumb truck driver and don't know how these things work.

Welcome as a member of the vast right wing conspiracy. We know you're one of us because you have questioned the authenticity of global warming claims so by definition you're a right wing kook. Because you want to think for yourself and be free to do things like buy restore or use old tractors you are quite dangerous to those that want to perfect the world. Of course those that want to perfect the world want it re-made to fit their ideals, this precludes freedom of choice and free will. It eventually leads to societies that can't think and loose their ability to innovate and a death of creativity and then individuality. It also means your over qualified for congress. My Dad always hid behind the dumb truck driver mantle, he was a lot wiser than he got credit for.

Because if you burn one carbon (weighs 6 atomic units) it combines with oxygen to make co2 which is 1 carbon (6) and 2 oxygen (2x8) being a total of 22 units. 6 ---> 22

The actual math is a lot more complicated but thats the basic numbers it all starts from.

and half of it is not used for lube oil or plastics. Some is used for plastics yes. I don't think you're considering the CO2 from burning natural gas as well.

Actually more than half is used for other things since only about 48-49% of crude turns into gas, the rest is other stuff, and not all crude even goes for gas production. and the figure in the link said they did not include nat gas in their calculation, only for cars and industrial use.

We broke high temp records from the late 1800's this past summer.
What fossil fuels were being burned back then to create global warming?
We get too caught up in "average" numbers for weather. There are no set numbers for weather, it is what it is.

To make matters even worse, there have been studies (or said they studied???) the amount of harmful methane from cows farting WERE JUST GONNA HAVE TO PUT AN END TO THAT NOW, kill the cows (but wont PETA protest that???) start eatin vegetables n alfalfa sprouts n sea weed etc if we really cared right??

And dont us humans exhale carbon grrrrrrrrrrrr we all gotta go I guess

Geeeeeeeee we can do nuttin anymore cuz all we humans are doin is destroying the planet and ruining animal habitat (according to some at least and they say they are right??) and if a person dares disagree hes an ignorant uneducated nincompoop

Im still gonna mow my grass by golly

What I have a problem with is the cross hatch pattern that they mow on the school property - that is twice the cutting - what for? Oh and they must have an outragoues water bill. Water system going all the time - in a drought and the ball fields are nice and green.

Theres a difference Id say in taxpayer paid mowing versus private ownership mowing. If a person wnats to mow his own yard 16 different ways thats one thing his own free choice AND HE ALONE PAYS FOR IT. If the state school mows it more then once thats a choice indeed BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT others are paying for it.......

NOTE I absolutely love how they look when mowed that way myslef lol I mow my front yard which is visible from the public road two ways also 90 degrees apart and geeeeeeee it looks purdy BUT Im not asking other taxpayers to foot the bill

Ida never thought lawn mowing could spark so much interest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason for all this problem is because the earth had only One thing on it in the early days trees and such. Putting out oxygen an taking in CO2 so the animals crawled out of the ocean to use up all that extra oxygen. Then we came along and upset the whole thing. Bummer. So now it's our part to set things straight. Now just how do we do that is the question. Eat less meat, eat less veggies, diaper our cows. Or just sit back and see what happens. So far over the last 4.5 billion years that seems to have worked pretty well.
So lay back have a snort take a nap and see what happens in the next 4.5 billion years give or take take a few years that is.

John John John don't you know that eating all them veggys are going to build up the pressure and then the Goverment will have to put a end to the good people that eats veggys and then farts. You know when you advance the timing on a tractor they backfire more,so being the educated man you are how do we retard the timing in a farting human? I bet you could apply for a grant to study that and maybe get it this winter and when you are in Florida you can do the study. (you know it would be a good way to finance your winter trip) Hope to maybe see you this winter in Florida.

Just a ignorant uneducated nincompoop

The math is quite simple. The molar mass of carbon is 12, the molar mass of oxygen is 16. One mole of carbon is 12 units. This mole of carbon can make one mole of CO2. That mole of CO2 has a mass of 44 or 12 units for the carbon and 32 units for the oxygen.

This would give you a ration of C/CO2 of 12/44 build your proportion and away you go.

Isn't basic Chemistry fun?

Face it..the ONLY correct remedy is to reduce the World population by 90%...

Who wants to forward a PLAN..????

wisbaker,
Can you see CARBON CREDITS trading on the stock market in 2025 it's a slow process but the money people want it, may be sooner now that Facebook and Google have lost there $$$$ shine.

Of course it's pretty complicated because oil and coal aren't all carbon. There's lots of Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Sulfur, etc. mixed in.

Also keep in mind that the normal "carbon cycle" (carbon cycling in and out of the atmosphere) is about a thousand billion tons per year. So fossil fuel is something, but there's a lot else out there.

Jon,
Looks like more reasons to keep gardening, and living off the land. Hope all is well with you. The project is going good over across the road, without the delivery from Bro in WY.LOL Catch you on the Case forum

wish I had time to raise your kinda garden. I love to cook but don't have the time to raise it.

Exactly, a whole 130 years worth of data. In historical terms, that's about how long it takes for the electric impulse in your brain to move to start to tell your eye to blink.

Large users are ships, power plants, what I'm saying is not half of the worlds fossil fuels are turned into plastic each year, locking away carbon.
