a good friend of mine has a chance to buy a massey ferguson 230 I looked at it it has one thousand fifty original hrs is owned by an older man who has too many tractors,it is gas,3 speed hi lo,power steering and nice original condtion, original paint, not shiny, but not rusty either, only thing I saw was one leaking valve stem and the rim starting to rust, the tire was not low on air,the tires are good,it runs good, The man said he would sell it for 3500 ,that didnt sound to bad to me,what are opinions? My friend has been looking for a 3 pt tractor like my ford 2000 for a while now, THANKS IN ADVANCE,,,Larry

I have a 230 diesel and I love it. Just watch the water pump. I was mowing with mine Saturday and all of a sudden it sounded like something was fixin to fly all to h***. I shut it down to see what it was. The water pump bearing must have went and the fan is so close to the radiator the wobble let it get into the radiator. About $500.00 now. So I got on my 3000 ford and went back to mowing, it died, fuel filters . I now have a total of 5 tractors and nothing runs. Those 2 were my "dependables" the others are in various stages of restoration. Needless to say the wife ain't to happy with my hobby right now!

Larry, they are a good little tractor and the price seems very reasonable, it should make him a great tractor, by the way why are you listed as a guest?

The MF 230 was just the last MF135 built. If you take the sheet metal off it would look just like the one built in the 1960s. They where built 1976-1983. I think they where one of the last gas tractors built.

The price and hours are very reasonable. It would compare very well to your Ford 2000. I actually like the transmission on the MF better. The gears seem to be more in the work range.

Your buddy better snap it up for the $3500. Around here it would bring a little more than that. More like $4000-4500.

A 230 was a less expensive option to the 245. It has a little less power but only 1000 hours for $3500 is a great price, especially if it's a diesel.
