I was thinking of buying one of these cheap 4 wheel drive tractors with high ground clearance and use it for hunting deep in the woods and I mean deep wilderness type stuff. where I go hunting there are swamps and deep mud pits that are hard to get through with a 4 wheeler with out wenching your self through the mud holes made by other 4 wheelers. I was thinking that one of these small light tractors would work better and the price of 4 wheelers are just as high. One difference is it wouldn't be as fast once out of the holes nor will it be as comfortable to sit on.
Anyone out there do this kind of stuff. Speed and confort are not one of my priorities just want to get there. To old to walk that far any more. any ideas on this?

I have a Mitsubishi Beaver2 4WD tractor, slow, but almost unstuckable! But I don't know your intelligence level, there is always a bigger fool, after foolproof comes out, LOL!!

Living on the coast with plenty of marsh and mud and I used to be an avid duck hunter. IF a four wheeler atv will not go thru a bog a small tractor will be worse. You need floatation. Find a vehical with low ground pressure. A sixwheeler with tracks are virtually unstoppable .

I'm smart enough to ask what other people think anyway. I may not listen but I'll ask. 4 wheeler just don't have the ground clearence needed so instead they use speed and churn it up. After a day or two no one uses the trail because it becomes work. it's not like they are bottomless pits. You normally only sink to your knees. the little tractors don't look like the weigh much and should be as whenchable. One other problem is the woods and bogs are full of logs and sticks that might rip your tires. How unstuckable is your tractor? If you can walk through it without a stick you then think you can make it. Just thinking. Also with the holes in the rims I can chain a log to the tire to get me one or two feet at a time. Other thing which ones have a locking dif?

Anything that is "harder to get stuck" is also harder to get unstuck. You might look for something with tracks or big flotation tires to ride on the top. Of course you could mount a winch on the back of your tractor to run off the PTO to get yourself unstuck.

The tractor will have a much higher ground clearance so if there is a solid bottom under the mud and ruts it'll be better than a 4 wheeler.I would mount a winch on the front usually Yanmars have a bracket in front that'd be about right to put the winch on it.I had a 16HP Yanmar 4WD and it would go about anywhere.

I tried to get it stuck, right after I bought it. I had this little pond, where the house basement drain (and washing machine) drains into, in the pasture. Sticky yellow clay, I guess about 18-24" deep, cows stand in it on hot days. I drove through it, to see what difference 4WD would be. Could not get it stuck, in forward, after about 5-6 laps, in the wettest part, I turned her around, and finally got the ag tires spinnin. Then I shifted into 4WD, and it walked out. This little tractor is small, but stout! THis one only has 16" rear tires, and 12" fronts. Front pumpkin might be 8-10" clearance.

If you have the 4 wheeler idiots in ahead of you, they are prolly runnin the game off, anyway. I'd find me a more secluded area, but that's just me.

The season lasts a month and they destroy the trails in the first few days and then they quit. Most are day hunters and have to be back to camp before dark because of the bears I guess. the last week of the season is very quiet because no one can get in any more. Just like with snow machines they travel in groups so 2,3,or 4 and in and out just a few times destroys the trail and then they leave because it becomes work. You know the type. there not hunters. The 4 wheelers have ruined this country and I used to walk in but getting to old to carry a load several miles to have some fool in a 4 wheeler show up and ruin my day. So I was thinking of the small tractor might help me out.
