O/T Looking for the dave 2 school of people skills

Man I hate trying to sell stuff. I'm trying to sell my golf cart for 350$ or best. Guy's kid called asked how much,I told him 350 or best. Uhhh ok click. 2 min later old man calls "you talked to my son about your cart" I want to know if you would take $275. I said yes. He said will it run [it's 36 volt] I told him yes. I can charge it with my batt charger but the cart charger is smoked. I will be at your house at 4pm with money. GREAT!!!!
Fast forward to 3pm go thru thru hassle of charging the cart. Now it's 4pm he shows up in a new chevy ext cab 4x4. I show him it moves and backs up. Now he wants to drive it. He takes off and is hanging off it like he's looking or listening for something. Comes back 5 min later and tells me it's got a wobble in it and the wheel bearings are loose and yada yada . NOW HE HAS THE NERVE TO ASK ME "WHATS THE BEST YOU'LL TAKE". I told him YOU OFFERED 275 TO MY 350 THAT'S WHAT I AGREE TOO. He starts hemm hawwing and running off with the mouth,so I loaded it up in the utility trailer hooked to my truck. He asked what I was doing. I told him it was going to scrap and was no longer for sale TO HIM.

I proceeded to tell him the amounts it will scrap for between batts and copper and motors comes to what he was ORIGINALLY OFFERED. So anybody need a good yamaha golf cart just needs a charger? Trucker.

A power surge caused a friend's charger to go up in smoke. I got inside and eliminated the brain box and used a 20 amp car fuse to send the power directly to the transformer. Wrapped tape around the fuse. He put his charger on a timer and it's been working for years. Usually the transformer and diodes are almost bullet proof. A golf cart charger is nothing more than a charger on steriods, heavier diodes and transformer. Have only seen one transformer where the secondaries melted.

In Florida, you will find loads of golf carts and cheap used chargers.

That's why I'm very hesitant to make an offer on the phone or through email. I know what I want to spend on it provided it's in good shape, but with all the little problems it(anything) could have, that the seller is in no way obliged to mention, I feel it's safer to look at it first. If the engine is done, or the tranny has a major slip, I will be ------ it I find out after I drove there.

Round here a guy would pay 500.00 for a parts cart.
never found one listed for your price...Charger like others say should be an easy uncostly fix

THEY WERE SITTING ON THE CART WHEN THEY MADE THE OFFER. Sorry still fuming. My mom called and told me they had been there 10min and left 10min after they called.

Always one or two like that on anything you try to sell.

I have found it easier to haul my stuff to the consignment auction. Drop it off, watch it sell, get a check in the mail.

For the little I lose, I don't have to deal with any more @#$%# on craigslist. To me, its a small price to pay.

You want to see some funny stuff related to selling go to the lawn tractor page, on pg 3 is where I mentioned I had a small trailer for sale in the picture classifieds. The responses to that are good reading. It's on pg 3 the heading is "mower trailer pics" with my handle.

Selling is tough nowdays.Everyone wants something for nothing, everyone thinks there smarter than you and can take advantage of you.

"What's the best you'll take?" You should have said the best I'll take is what a new one costs. Where are you going to get something that works cheaper than $275? I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find a good used charger. It's not like Yamaha are rare golf carts.

Again we as a people just don't have skills in dealing with others to buy or sell or negotiating deals. If you think you're golf cart episode was rough try selling new cars, it'll really shake your faith in humanity. I spent a year in Greece, the average Greek has a better understanding about buying and selling stuff and dickering to get a good deal, why because they do it daily and if you don't at least try you'll get no respect. But the average Greek I knew had a better idea of why businesses existed and were more adapt to develop a relationship with the guy that sold them their tomatoes or gasoline or what ever product they wanted or needed.

Lesson #1..... OBO opens you up to all idiots and wastes your time. If you think they need/deserve a discount, you can still give it to them.

#2..... Don't laugh at hairlips

#3.... Go with your gut and don't be afraid to run anyone off your place.

Cancel the ad, wait a week, and put 600 on it. Maybe you can use some of the tips to fix your charger....

I generally do not negotiate over the phone, unless I have reason to believe the buyer is serious. I sold a motorcycle last year, and the idiot buyers were just unbelievable. Low-ball offers over the phone, don't show when they say they will, send you idiotic text messages asking questions that were covered in the ad. I really had to re-assess my expectations of people's stupidity.

Dave 2 maybe a lot of things but he honestly says what he thinks and believes. Rather refreshing actually from the lying two faced managers here.

Ditto.
I'll take direct honesty any day.

All this, be nice and don't hurt anyone's feelings is Bull.

"Am i too fat?"

YES, get off your lazy bum and stop eating 2-3 helpings at a time.

"It's OK, you will do better next time."

Really? why? If I don't practice and if you are OK with me not doing well, well why should I even try?

I won't get started with the Bull they call Budgeting in biz. Too many times the books get cooked to make/match the budget. Do that enough times and upper mgt doesn't know there is a problem and fails to change what needs to be changed.
I miss Dr. Spock!

I really don't see why you got your undershorts in such a wad.

The guy was HAGGLING. That's how haggling goes:

The buyer points out faults with the item, and then offers a lower price. The seller points out positives on the item and then counters with his own offer. You either come to a price both can agree on, or you don't.

That conversation would've gone exactly the same on the streets of downtown Athens, up to the point where you started acting like a kindergartner.

Haggling is NOT taking criticism of the item you have for sale as a personal insult and running everyone off your property on the end of a shotgun barrel.

If you're going to get so upset because someone offers less than you're asking, then just scrap the damn thing.

I think the problem was in the fact that the guy offered $275 over the phone- I've never offered anything over the phone, I just make sure they're "negotiable", then go see it and go from there.

If you've made an offer over the phone, the proper etiquette when you go see it is to decide if you want it at $275 or not, based on condition. Don't be trying to low-ball even further.

But I agree that maybe Trucker was a little too short-fused about it. I'd have said, "Well, you offered $275- either take it at that price, or we'll both keep looking."

Exactly what I intend to do with anything offered for sale that someone attempts to low ball or essentially "steal". Will scrap rather than mess around with someone "haggling". This isn't some third world country where the seller sets a very high price and expects to haggle. "Hats off" to the original poster.
