Opinion question, Stainless mufflers?

Just had my final (hopefully) surgery this morning on my right eye and Doc say's I should be clear in a few days after bring about one click from legally blind for the past 18 months.
I'm contemplating starting the big shop back up with the focus on strictly mufflers. At one time I produced the full line of stainless mufflers, stacks and exhaust pipes for most every color of tractor. Now since chrome has become more popular than the more expensive stainless and people seem to be ok with steel exhaust pipes, there's no sense in my trying to compete in that area. So I'm looking to get back into the muffler side of it as there doesn't appear to be much action there, or is there? My first question is Is there still a market for stainless mufflers? Or is everyone satisfied with a steel muffler at 1/2 the cost?
Many questions I have need a reasonable answer before I start moving forward and try to re-establish a presence in the market, but this is the first question.
Thanks for your input.

Don't know about everyone else, but I like stainless. They buff up nice, and heat stains look good on them.

Make specialty mufflers out of Stainless. Our '96 Taurus has 150,000 miles on it and it's the same exhaust system it was made with (stainless for ethanol) Make mufflers for Volkswagens, Renaults-any old classic that you can find a market for, and folks WILL pay to get it. I had a stainless fuel tank made over a decade ago for my McCormick Deering, as the old one was totally rusted out. I'd like to have a muffler for the same tractor made of stainless, but no one makes them.

Steve,

Produce mufflers for the old Volkswagen (VW) beetles, buses, Things, Ghias and I'll keep you in business. I'd be interested in a joint venture in that arena. Porsche too.. Thanks Mike - My Email is open if you want to discuss.

If you decide to get back into it. I would be interested in pipes from the manifold and intake and exhaust stacks on my John Deere G keep us posted on your decision.

Northeast puller.

there where ss mufflers on older minni molines. Alot of people still looking. post this on the minni page. Would be alot better then the stanley junk at the farm store!!!

Make exhaust for the later fuel injected vw beetles. Especially California only parts. I have a stash of half used junk I am hoarding until someone does it right. Something for my Ghia that really fits and sounds right would be worth gold.

I bought one from you 3 or 4 or 5 years ago. Have never regretted the "extra expense". Several guys have asked where I got it.

I've made several for the minnies, I even have a pattern muffler which is SS left from a G1000 Vista build I did about 12 years ago.

Steve,
Id still love to get a stainless version of a John Deere 420/430 orchard style muffler. Talked to you about it years ago. . . Would be one of the first in line if you fire up the shop again!

I"m glad you are considering getting back in the biz. I hope to be a customer for some A & G pieces if possible. You can"t compete price-wise with Chinese chrome but I think the discerning tractor restorer would consider stainless (polished or not). Just look at Walt"s pics of those folks with the high-end restorations for example.

I wish you luck, you have great skill in manufacturing and marketing.
